NEWS RELEASE

Critical Food Distributed and Relief Supplies En Route Following Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)

Springfield, Mo. – November 12, 2013 – In response to Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), Convoy of Hope has allocated more than 3 million meals for distribution to survivors in some of the country’s hardest-hit areas.

“Because of our feeding initiative in the Philippines we have food in country to share with survivors of the typhoon while continuing to feed the nearly 21,000 children who are enrolled in our initiative,” says Kary Kingsland, senior vice president of Global Initiatives for Convoy of Hope. “We also have several shipping containers in port, on the water or being prepared at our World Distribution Center in Springfield, Missouri. The need is great and we want to help those who are suffering.”

According to Kingsland, along with Convoy of Hope’s in-country teams, a veteran assessment team will be in the Philippines tomorrow morning. The team will assist with immediate response work and help plan the organization’s long-term response.

Though the distribution of food has already begun, adds Kingsland, additional items such as hygiene kits, tents, shoes and much-needed water filtration units will be distributed.
