Harvest America with Greg Laurie: 7 Days Before Nationwide Evangelistic Event

One week left before Greg Laurie and his Harvest Ministries' largest evangelistic event ever. I believe this is a chance to make a difference in the world for such a time as this. I'm praying for a revival. More than 1,700 venues plan to host the event and have volunteers be there alongside as people watching make decisions for Jesus.

For such a time as this... a time for prayer.

This Week: Obama's America, Olympic Gold, and Global Leadership

(Photo: 2016 - Obama's America)

Conservatives taking the high road to elevating presidential election campaign talk are doing themselves a favor by spreading the word about the movie "2016 - Obama's America."

I had the opportunity to talk to both the producer Gerald R. Molen and co-producer Dinesh D'Souza for two separate stories. The articles are being widely read and shared. I'm working on another one about Molen's (produced Schindler's List) reaction to "media hate" for the film.

Claressa Shields Wins Gold, Makes US Boxing History

(Photo: Reuters/Murad Sezer)

The lead from Sports Illustrated boxing expert Chris Mannix:

LONDON -- In the bowels of the F.W.C. Berston Fieldhouse in Flint, Mich., with old equipment when it was there and makeshift gear when it was not, Claressa Shields worked. There was no promised payoff, no hint that boxing would elevate her to a better life. Yet since age 11 she was there, nearly every day, battering heavy bags until they split, sparring with boys because there were no girls who could go rounds with her.

She did it because she loved it, not because she expected much from it. She got something at ExCeL Centre on Thursday though: A gold medal. With a thorough, 19-12 whipping of Russia's Nadezda Torlopova, the 17-year old Shields claimed the only gold medal for the U.S. boxing team while becoming the second-youngest boxer ever to win gold.

Addressing a throng of reporters in the media zone, a teenager's enthusiasm was replaced by subdued bewilderment. "I don't even know that this is real right now," Shields said. "I'm surprised I didn't cry. This is something I wanted for a long time. (more) FULL POST

SPOILER ALERT: 17-yr-old US Boxer Claressa Shields Advances to Gold Medal Bout

(Photo: Sue Jaye Johnson)

Claressa Shields IS the spoiler of the London Olympics. Not because no one expected her to advance to the gold medal bout like she did today, but because she is "spoiling" what this fallen world may have had in store for her.

Call me crazy, but I'm not into watching the backs of London Olympics viewers who get "upset" if someone "spoils" their evening viewing of the games. Besides NBC may NOT EVEN show the full bout of Shields defeating Kazakhstan's Marina Volnova during prime time this evening ... well, because it's women's boxing.

Think what you may about the violent sport of boxing, but there is no doubt that Shields is not only uplifting the entire city of Flint, Mich., and perhaps boxing fans in the entire U.S., but she is being a witness as to what a walk (or in this case a boxing career) with Jesus looks like. 'Obama's America 2016:' Don't Miss Exclusive Interview with Film's Producer

(Photo: Obama's America 2016)
Scene from Obama's America 2016 in which Dinesh D'Souza interviews George Obama in Nairobi, Kenya.

"I hope that if nothing else [movie viewers] come away with enough desire to want to know more. Hopefully, I want people to walk out of the theater and say, 'Wow, I didn't know that.' And to just seek the truth, make their own decisions about what is going on in this country, but do the research. Know the facts. Get educated. And when they get educated they are going to get motivated to get involved. There is just too much going on in this country right now that people need to be aware of and need to get involved in the process." - Producer Gerald R. Molen, best known for his Academy Award-winning Best Picture "Schindler's List."

Quick... you readers that have been around for awhile. Who does USA boxer Claressa Shields look like in the above photo? Shields is seen here in a preliminary fight on her way to the London Olympics.

Shields had her first fight in the Olympics today. Los Angeles Times report:

Shields, 17, beat Anna Laurell of Sweden, nearly twice her age at 32, with a flurry that broke a 12-12 tie going into the final round of their 69-75 kilogram (152-165 pounds) match. She caught Laurell with a hard left that caused a standing eight-count and sealed the Swede’s fate. Her final margin of victory was 18-14.

Shields will fight Marina Volnova of Kazakhstan in the semifinals. Volonova upset top-seeded Savannah Marshall of Great Britain.

Women’s boxing semifinals are Wednesday.

Harvest America: Greg Laurie Joined by Evangelists at 'Start! Rally' LIVE Webcast

(Image: Harvest America via The Christian Post)
Evangelist Greg Laurie's wife, Cathe, prays at closing of rally message for Harvest America on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012.
UPDATE: STAY TUNED FOR FULL STORY ABOUT THE EVENT
Guest speakers James MacDonald, Bod Coy, and Jack Graham joined Greg Laurie Sunday evening for a live webcast of Harvest America's Start! Rally.
The event was an opportunity for individuals and Harvest America host locations to come together to pray and share in the excitment of Harvest America.
Churches across the nation tuned into the live broadcast with their congregations.

Laurie is looking to take the Harvest Crusades, which are large-scale evangelistic outreaches primarily held at stadiums and arenas, to the next level.

He plans to draw on the success of last year's Harvest webcasts from Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles and Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., during which individuals watched from every state and 32 countries around the world.

The concept of Harvest America, which will be held Aug. 26 in Anaheim, includes the hope that churches and Christian leaders that host the event in their own cities can establish a direct relationship with those attending and those making decisions to commit to Jesus Christ. FULL POST

It was a real peachy Chick-fil-A Appreciation kind-of-a day!

(Photo: Lisa Merry)
It could not have been a nicer evening. There was a worship service at Free Chapel in Irvine outside with awesome music and prayer, followed by a large group of us hanging out at Chick-fil-A on their patio... sipping Peach Milkshakes. Thank you Lisa Merry for snapping this shot!

It was an emotional day.

I know guys aren't supposed to say that, but...

A difficult and yet rewarding July had just ended. Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day coverage on Wednesday was fast and furious.

I admit that when a couple told me that when they saw the huge outpouring of support at the Chick-fil-A and began to cry (the husband said it was the wife that cried), my eyes misted a bit... me, the "seasoned journalist."

It has happened before. In the middle of reporting a news story I see God moving in incredible ways.

In this case, I saw it in the husband of the couple I interviewed.

"I just want to say that to God be the glory," he said. FULL POST
