On this day, Feb. 14, 1999, I was baptized at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., as a public profession of my faith in Jesus. I felt His love like no other – and still do.
Prior to this day, during one morning in November of '98, I accepted Jesus at the church's Celebrate Recovery information table in between church services. A man named John led me in prayer.
As I approached the table I was trying to act all cool and was staring at the flyers when out of the blue he said, "Do you know Jesus?" I said, "I don't know." John said, "Would you like to pray?" And I said, "Sure." We went behind the table and I followed along in prayer. I have never been the same since.
Former Chicago Tribune crime beat editor Lee Strobel, who is now my Christian brother and friend, was a guest speaker at Saddleback that month – and through his messages and through so many other countless ways in my life, God was gently yanking my chain (sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly) the whole way!
Thank you, Jesus!
To all of you, Happy Valentine's Day and thank you for reading and sharing my stories. Remember, Jesus is the lover of your soul!
Love in Christ,
