Promise Keepers and Promise Breakers

You’ve heard of the Promise Keepers. This is not what this is about. This is about God never breaking His promises like humans may do. God never breaks His promises but we frequently do. God keeps His Word but humans sometimes don’t. The difference between promises made by God and mankind is that God has the power to bring these promises about but we sometimes are unfaithful or unseen circumstances come up to make it impossible for us to keep them. These are called exceedingly great and precious promises in the Word. If you could promise someone something then you might have to qualify it by saying, ”God willing” or “If something else doesn’t come up” but God’s promises are more sure than anything you can even imagine, even when things do come up.

Hebrews 13:5b “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

If this were included in many marriage vows, many would break this promise. God never will. What better promise is there in this life than God telling you that never will He leave you and never will He forsake you? People can say that but remember, people are promise breakers and not promise keepers. God can not lie and so God will never fail to keep His Word. Heaven and earth will pass away before His Word does and the last time I checked, they’re both still there (Matt 24:35)!

First Peter 2:3-4 “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”

These amazing promises are indeed “precious and very great” because we can partake of His divine nature and since we have “escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” we can have a better life while here in this earthly tent.

Jude 24-25 “ Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”

What human could ever promise us to be delivered before God as blameless? That’s not possible. Who could assure us that we can be kept from stumbling? This doesn’t mean that we won’t fall but we won’t stumble in the process of being presented before His glorious presence. Only a God that has all power, dominion, and authority could promise this.

Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

God never promises to keep us out of the valleys nor does He promise to keep us out of the shadows but if we are in the shadows, this means that the Son is still shining. He doesn’t promise us to keep us out of the shadows and He doesn’t promise to keep us out or take us out of the valleys of the shadows of death but He will take us through them. His correction (the staff) and His protection (the rod) will give us comfort.

When others have let you down, broken their promises or failed to keep their word, at least we can believe that God will keep His promises for He is the True Promise Keeper. This is not a hope-so but a know-so.
