The following infographic by Best RN to BSN Programs provides a list of people that greatly influenced the field of nursing.

If you have studied the history of Christian charity then some of the names might be familiar.

Wikipedia reports that Saint Fabiola lived during the fourth century A.D. and committed her life to helping the sick after her second husband died. In the Catholic Church she is remembered as the patron saint for the Hospices.

Besides working as a nurse in wartime, Florence Nightingale also started a program to train nurses and was an accomplished statistician. According to Wikipedia, "Nightingale underwent the first of several experiences that she believed were calls from God in February 1837 while at Embley Park, prompting a strong desire to devote her life to the service of others."
