Al Lopus
ABOUT ME
Al Lopus is the President and cofounder of the Best Christian Workplaces Institute, founded in 2002. The Institute provides research-based measurement tools and strategic advisory services with a single vision: to help Christian organizations set the standard as the best, most effective workplaces in the world. At BCWI, Al has conducted the broadest-ever employee opinion survey of Christian workers. The comprehensive survey includes more than 400 Christian organizations representing over 80,000 full time employees. In addition, BCWI launched the Best Places to Work in Canada survey in 2004.
Al is a recognized author, speaker and consultant on the topic of developing organizations into better, more effective workplaces. For several years he directed the analysis of Washington’s Best Companies to Work For, and Oregon’s 100 Best Companies to Work For programs. He was responsible for completing employee surveys of over 800 companies in these “Best Companies" programs. As a result, Al has developed a research-based diagnostic model designed to improve the ability of organizations to attract, retain and motivate their human talent.
Prior to cofounding BCWI, Al served for 21 years in several leadership roles in Dallas, Denver and the Northwest with the global human resource consulting firm, Watson Wyatt. Al's success as a manager is due to his vision and implementation of human capital programs focused on the delivery of high quality services to clients. He was known for creating and leading a "jerk-free environment." Al's clients included: The Boeing Company, Safeco, PACCAR, Alaska Airlines, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Hynix Semiconductor, Regence Blue Cross, Tektronix, USAA and Virginia Mason Medical Center.
Al is on the Board of Directors of the Christian Leadership Alliance. For Virginia Mason Medical Center, a 5,000 employee healthcare organization, Al also serves as Chairman to the Board of Governors and is a member of the Board of Trustees.
Al is married to Kathy Lopus. They have two adult daughters, Lane and Christina.
Al is active at the Mercer Island Covenant Church where he has served as Deacon, Elder and chair of the Sr. Pastor Search Committee.
