As I discussed in the last blog, our society is becoming more open with sexuality. The government has funded programs to educate our youth and encourage marriage as the answer to the negative sexual issues that have affected so many people in our nation. Unfortunately marriages are decreasing, divorces are increasing, and many of our youth today have lost their innocence. So if funded programs aren't working, what will work?
I believe that some of the programs out there do not exist in vain and are getting some results. We must first realize that what will work for one individual may not work for another. As far as the youth, parents must truly take on the responsibility to talk to their children about sex and "hold nothing back"! Along with that, adults must educate kids while they are young. If elementary school kids are experimenting with inappropriate touching amongst each other and are exposed to all the sexuality on television, realize they know more about sex than you think. When no one is educating and monitoring them, we can see the results in our news everyday from teen pregnancy to more sexually immoral behavior.
So what about the church as a force or tool to help stop these negative trends in our society? Jesus said I am the truth, the way, and the life. If Christ's teachings are the answers to life's problems, shouldn't the church along with parents be dealing with sexual immorality, divorce, sexually transmitted diseases, etc? The answer is yes, just like Christ dealt with the current issues of His day, the church should always inform and encourage people how to live victoriously in the midst of an ever changing and challenging society.
I believe that there are many pastors and youth leaders that address the topic of sex and it's helping many people in the process. On the other hand this topic is taboo in many churches today. Why doesn't every congregation touch on sexuality? Many believe that the topic of sexuality can be a very sensitive topic that many religious leaders feel may be too inappropriate to talk about in church. Basically congregations act like teens aren't having sex, husbands and wives aren't cheating, and men don't watch pornography. If everybody puts on a fake smile and carry themselves like people don't have any issues, no one would need to talk about the things that are destroying families, marriages, and our youth. More pastors and leaders need to discuss those things that may be controversial because it will truly help many people be free from the things that hold them in bondage. We are not living in a day of innocence, nothing is hidden from this generation and everything is out in the open to be seen not matter how inappropriate it may be. And since sex is everywhere it's not only the governments and parent's responsibility to deal with sexuality but the church too.
If you agree or disagree what I'm saying let me know your opinion. I may go further into this topic but need to know how the readers out there feel about this blog.
