America’s Hate Preachers

text size A A A

This is the name of a currently running BBC documentary featuring Hannah Livingston, a talented journalist who spent six months tracking “Americas radical Christian hate groups”. The film artfully presents hatred against abortionists and LGBT community as a rising scourge that must be arrested … even suggesting auspiciously that the animosity towards Clinton’s bid for the presidency can be traced to Christian extremism. The preachers featured in the documentary are already banned from entering the UK, and according to the BBC documentary, should be stopped, in the United States, from making more unbridled comments causing extreme and unfair distress to lesbians, homosexuals, transgenders and others who just want to be left in peace. The preachers, however, disagree that the LGBT are not a threat to society, and accuse the media of presenting vile dangers as only an alternative lifestyle.

It may, on the surface, look like the pulpit is losing the battle, as a new postmodern reality presents the pulpit as a confrontational bastion of hatred and disorder – but even since the time of John Knox, the fiery Scottish preacher also banned from entering England by Queen Elizabeth 1, we have seen the same strategy played over and over again … and if this strategy could have succeeded, Christianity would by now have been snuffed out.

Rev 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. 9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

The strength of Christianity is unseen and its preservation is supernatural. The Church is kept and cherished by Christ. Its existence is upheld by forces beyond what flesh and blood can see or manage. It does not matter if Emperor Nero rules or even worse, the gates of hell will never ever prevail against the ordained progress of Christ’s Church. Indeed, there are false ambassadors of Christ, but these false ambassadors are the best soldiers in satan’s armies and he must be secretly at peace with them. The full brunt of satanic hatred and onslaughts is reserved for God’s messengers who, without angelic defence, would long have been extinguished.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

There are many scriptures, like the above, in the Bible that seem hateful … but it is these warnings, inspired by God’s Holy Spirit, that comfort a world in the grip of many befuddling deceptions. If there were no supernatural Restrainer – the Holy Spirit, checking the agendas never seen or heard on BBC, the earth would have long become a carcass of disease, destruction and ruins.

2 Thessalonians 2: 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

Media and indeed the populations do not and indeed cannot discern or experience the full power of lawlessness for what it really is, because the Holy Spirit does not permit it, until the appointed time, when the Restrainer is taken out of the way.

The word of God has several warnings to false preachers but also encourages His true servants.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good works deceive the hearts of the simple.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

But the most vulnerable remain those preachers who, for fear of being ridiculed or being persecuted, will overlook or simply prefer not to see the descent of a generation into a moral decline, and respond by politely looking away. This is what the Bible says concerning them.

Ezekiel 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

British viewers will this week be evangelised by this well researched and presented documentary and come to the desired conclusion that incendiary warnings from the pulpit are unnecessary and are products of crazed vagabonds who should be locked up. Others will say, thank God my loving preacher is not like that … God will be laughing.
