Throes of Multiculturalism

I feel the discomfort of the family of the United States Vice President-elect following a theatre act, at which Mike Pence was lectured on inclusion, diversity and the fears of some segments of American society. President-elect Donald Trump predictably demanded an apology from the cast of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" a day after an actor delivered a well targeted missive on values and which also reminded the world of the fractious aftermath of the recent 2016 election. We are thankful for Pence in that all he received from the aggrieved protagonist was a lecture at the theatre, Abraham Lincoln was not so fortunate.

Culture has been defined as the “the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society.” I heard a respected thinker recently describe culture as the collection of memories, past experiences, and teachings of yesterday that create the norms of today's behaviour. It suggests culture is neither right nor wrong, only that perspectives differ and efforts to unify culture or impose a culture and its values are intrinsically futile. Race is linked to culture to the extent that similar races share the same memories, experiences and learnings of the past but this is again not always so. When you observe multiculturalism, you are immediately struck by how extremely different the reactions and perspectives of people can be …depending on their memories and indoctrinations. Many are irritated with outcomes oblivious of the fact that the lens through which they see things can distort reality … a reality that evokes a completely different reaction from those seeing differently. The Undefeatable God

Today, many think God can be defeated, disputed with, embarrassed, cheated or even ridiculed …forgetting that the worlds and powers can be likened to plastic toys in His hands. I watch how people struggle and hustle for power and the intense tensions to win … and the wicked ambitions to acquire illegitimate gains … the vanity of it all. But what stuns me the most is why we think God is surprised, taken aback or slightly disturbed – when it all rests in His hands and while He cannot be changed by anything. Anything invariably happens because He permits it or decides to simply watch it. No one can breathe for a second without Him. Our sanity is in His hands. When He decides an intervention, He cannot be stopped … whatever He has concluded must be so and exactly at the time ordained by Him. God's transcendence means that He is outside space and time, and therefore eternal and unable to be changed by forces within the universe. FULL POST

Wasted Zeal, Peace and Elections

The United States of America will be voting for its next President in a few weeks. My prayer is that there will be peace. There are times when we are led to believe that this world has much to offer us, outside what the Bible says. But it amounts only to a waste of zeal and energy in a field of deception. Waste not your energy wooing and expecting love from the world; soon it will manifest its true color which is an unrepentant hatred for all that God stands for. Its true agenda is to put as many on the path of destruction as it can.

Samuel Rutherford wrote “The world never looked like a friend upon you. Ye owe it little love. It looked ever sour like upon you. Howbeit you should woo it, it will not match with you; and therefore never seek warm fire under cold ice. This is not a field where your happiness growth: it is up above.”

Just think of it. What will be found if demons, hackers, Russia, China and Wikileaks could hack into your current and deleted e-mail and also expose all your midnight internet browsing, electronic banking transactions and "chats" for which you have deleted all trails? Will they not find the real YOU ... the real person behind an elegant mask. The mask is the screen that the world offers so all can look as they need to look to win in a fallen civilisation. Is it not strange that evil initially preaches tolerance, when its real ultimate objective is destruction of good? Has it not become a new normal for wickedness to put on the costume of charity? America’s Hate Preachers

This is the name of a currently running BBC documentary featuring Hannah Livingston, a talented journalist who spent six months tracking “Americas radical Christian hate groups”. The film artfully presents hatred against abortionists and LGBT community as a rising scourge that must be arrested … even suggesting auspiciously that the animosity towards Clinton’s bid for the presidency can be traced to Christian extremism. The preachers featured in the documentary are already banned from entering the UK, and according to the BBC documentary, should be stopped, in the United States, from making more unbridled comments causing extreme and unfair distress to lesbians, homosexuals, transgenders and others who just want to be left in peace. The preachers, however, disagree that the LGBT are not a threat to society, and accuse the media of presenting vile dangers as only an alternative lifestyle.

It may, on the surface, look like the pulpit is losing the battle, as a new postmodern reality presents the pulpit as a confrontational bastion of hatred and disorder – but even since the time of John Knox, the fiery Scottish preacher also banned from entering England by Queen Elizabeth 1, we have seen the same strategy played over and over again … and if this strategy could have succeeded, Christianity would by now have been snuffed out. God Reigns, even in Politics

I have encountered many foolish words of more than a few, who say they expect men of God to be silent on politics, or even worse, who cannot find agreement on their words to the economy, science or to sports or music …claiming they delve into areas in which they have no competence … many even claim God's Prophets are embarrassing their faith and Christians.

First, we must accept that almost everything God says offends and irritates the “flesh” … or the realm of the natural. The old time Pastor would say … listen well to the chiming of the world, then understand that God intends the exact opposite. This can be confusing, especially to Christians who believe they know God … only to be shocked when God speaks and they are unable to come to terms with the supremacy of the Divine.

In truth, God does not just reign over the Church, He reigns over all. He speaks into everything and all things He chooses to speak into. To one, He speaks to the young Samuel - a child of God, even through a backslidden Eli, concerning the affairs of His house. But like Elijah, to others He speaks to the economy, declaring famine or abundance of rain. He may choose to install kings and remove others as He wishes, like He spoke and did many times through the Prophet Samuel. FULL POST

Clinton – Trump Debate. Who deserves the Presidency?

Where can we find wisdom to understand how to unravel the professions of men and women to know truth and choose well. The Bible describes the great wisdom of Solomon in deciding the true mother of a baby stolen from another. Both mothers – harlots, present their case, the true mother is more interested not in possession of the baby, but that the baby survives an apparent impending death which would be the natural result of dividing the infant.

A scenario of division and disunity produces no winners … only an imminent destruction that would hurt the real owner of the baby … a pain far greater to bear for the true mother. The true owner of anything is able to release it, knowing it really does not change its identity, only its possession. The life of the baby gives joy to the true mother. Which candidate will preserve America from decay?

Both harlots in the biblical narration are not credible, but one was the true owner. The possessor of the title “President” is the one that truly loves his or her country and who will have grace to release the opportunity if that action will achieve a greater good and preservation of a nation that now appears irreparably divided and besieged by many threats. The pretender will not see or care for these threats or will dismiss them. The “Sword of Solomon” hangs over the baby … the tone of the true mother is indisputably different from the uncaring hustler. Wisdom always knows how to listen beyond the words, for the spirit behind expressions … to pick out the pretender from the virtuous. Will Americans discern beyond facile rehearsed answers, media bias and showmanship to sense the heart truly prepared to nurture a nation to its divine destiny? FULL POST

Many Foolish Battles

I pray you are never found in one. These are situations in which there are no victors, only bravery appointed to be smitten by deception and intrigue. But these are so prevalent. In the case of Uriah, a good but weak man – loyal to a human system but who had not learnt to check matters well with God, perished through the plots of his leader.

2 Samuel 11:15 And he (David) wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

David’s secret haunted him and he was later defeated by a conscience and agony of heart that ushered in for him, the worst episode in his reign – also triggering many painful future consequences.

If Clinton wins this election, will she not soon be defeated by greed (according to Powell’s alleged email) and many contrived deceptions and illegal shortcuts … but how can Trump, if he emerges President, escape the humiliation that awaits the churlish, arrogant and self-confident. The saints can learn from outcomes of foolish battles i.e. always defeat – for all participants albeit the timings and sequences of events and consequences may differ. FULL POST

God’s Candidate is always Pro-Life

There are many gifts spoken of in the Bible. Compassion (Oxford Dictionary) means sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. To be able to sense pain felt by others (especially when they are helpless, weak and not in a position to return your assistance) and to act in kindness to relieve that hurt is to have compassion. It is a mystery, and indeed a divine gift … how can you sense what you yourself do not suffer, or be gripped by a fervent cause that really may have nothing to do with you, but will make a positive difference for others and move the agenda of God forward and please Him.

Exodus_2:6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

I searched the word of God and found “compassion” very rarely ascribed to persons but almost always to God, to Christ and the early Christians. It is very abnormal for a person to have compassion, indeed the heart of mankind without God is described as desperately wicked and always self-serving. The first and only instance I found of compassion ascribed to mankind in the Old Testament was in an Egyptian woman who saw baby Moses and was moved with pity. She knew that male Hebrew children were to die …and indeed many must have been drowned, killed or poisoned …yet God put this unique solitary gift in this woman. The result was that an entire nation was rescued as God found and preserved a man who would lead and do God’s plan. It is even more mysterious that God used an Egyptian woman to save the boy who God will later use to drown the armies of Egypt. Compassion can see a badly bruised reed and a hopeless smoking flax and yet be moved to preserve it from extinction. Compassion can see that which was meant and perhaps even deserves to die and be moved to give it another chance. FULL POST

Kerry visits Nigeria amidst fears of an Islamisation agenda

The recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to Nigeria has sparked some controversy as many have described the visit as both “discriminatory and divisive”. Hosted by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the most senior Islamic cleric in the country as well as meetings with governors of Northern (Islamic) states and talks with the muslim President Muhammadu Buhari … one has to wonder why such obvious overtures to Islamic interests, are perceived as the best way to calm the terrorism scourge and simmering tensions ravaging the nation ... also at a time of intense sensitivity to religious pointers,

Recently, Christians on evangelism have been butchered to death while on evangelism on the streets and attacks on Christians are on the rise. Many Christians in areas with significant muslim population, now feel very unsafe and unprotected. But this does not seem to be on Kerry's "correct" agenda. Are Christians to be sacrificed for peace and calm in the embattled Northern region? How many more martyrs ? FULL POST

Brazil’s Gold in a Torrential Storm

Brazil, on Saturday, won a gold medal in the Olympics Football event - defeating Germany, only after a long extended tenacious struggle involving penalties after extra time, reminiscent of battles faced by the beleaguered nation. Brazil also won its second gold of Rio 2016 as Thiago Braz won in the men's pole vault contest, in spite of heavy rains. As the world enjoys the Olympics, more than a few in the leadership of the world's largest Latin American economy, will not be in the mood to enjoy the enthralling entertainment – an event costing the government a huge outlay. But perhaps it was worth it after all.

Recent research at the Saïd Business School, in Oxford, which analysed 30 summer and winter games, has claimed that none of the Olympic games ever held, came in within their initial budget and nearly half exceeded targets by more than 100 per cent (The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dissociated itself from this study). The average cost of holding the games was put at $8.9B, buttressing claims that the $4.8B budget for the Rio games is on the optimistic side ... also perhaps explaining root causes behind many complaints of inadequate arrangements. So why is Brazil, a nation with a 10.9% unemployment, annual GDP decline of – 3.8% and inflation close to 10%, going on this kind of spree? FULL POST
