Thinkers may not be your first selection in election choices noting as someone said “it is much easier to educate a doer than to activate a thinker” … but we continue to observe that our world is continually shaped by thinkers and their ideas whether for good or evil. Another friend wonders why we need ponder on thoughts that will come to nothing … only that they often do not. It took over a century for us to move from freudian redefinition of sexuality and related thoughts of freedoms to today when Pope Francis, the 266th and current Pope of the Catholic Church says the Church must stop “obsessing” over homosexuality, abortion, and contraception. Nor can we blame thinkers that originate religions but must still admit perhaps unintended consequence as we read of another chilling and symbolic terrorist attack at a mall in Kenya. The latest thought-bomber must be the highly respected Stephen Hawking who says individuals should have the right to choose how to die. FULL POST

Biographies are helpful especially when they are factual in painting the subject - as could possibly be. We soon discover that the best of men will be frail humans and not angels. Yet there are attributes which make for successful leadership, commonalities or traits that seem to distinguish the individuals who made the vital difference to the destiny of nations and peoples.
Tom Hooper’s Oscar winning (must-watch) film – The King’s Speech, is a 2010 British historical drama about King George VI who, to cope with a severe speech impediment, found an unlikely friend and help in an unqualified Australian therapist who assisted him overcome a debilitating and highly unattractive stammer. King George VI did not want or expect to be King …given that he had an elder brother who was already in line. His wife, Elizabeth said once that she was frightened at the prospect of married to a monarch but on hearing her husband (then Duke of York) speak, she felt sure it was impossible for someone with such incapacitating disability to be ever crowned., FULL POST

The Bible asks us to be “the salt of the earth and light of the world” implying an expectation to go and shine Christ in careers, business and relationships. This should only be in the context of God remaining always as our source and our jobs and interactions offering another ministry service opportunity. Our obedience to God cannot therefore be subservient to any other obedience; laziness and sloth are typified as abominable acts … and excellence in the market becomes a powerful evangelistic lever.
The saints model work-place victory against formidable odds to prove that God is indeed greater in us than he that rages against us in the world. Many do need to repent and redeem their debt of ministry service in their career place. However, Wikipedia defines an idol as “an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed or any person or thing regarded with blind admiration, adoration, or devotion.” The children of Israel had only just barely crossed the Red Sea when they began to dance around a golden calf … product of an inclination that did not drown with the might Egyptian army. At the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, a ceremony which includes traditional bell-ringing and wreath-laying holds. I do pray that those still hurting will find the relief they need. The Pentagon also plans a moving morning ceremony for victims' relatives and survivors of the attacks, with more wreath-laying and comforting remarks from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and other officials, as well as an afternoon observance for Pentagon workers.
On Sep 11 2001, the world view changed permanently for many Americans and indeed for all of mankind. The possibility of a contemporary Hiroshima of a different sort looms …and the horror - that all it takes is for a few malefactors in possession of an evil agenda and more destructive weapons to plunge even a superpower into grief – becomes vivid. It is logical to consider that if we may not be able to eliminate all offense, it must be easier to envisage a world with little or no weapons of destruction … an utopia, where the wolf and the lamb feed together safely … FULL POST

A letter was recently posted on facebook of the testimony of Mrs Abimbola Ogedegbe. Pastor Adeboye was on an evangelical mission to Malaysia last month when God visited her and her family. She had an infant of 16 months who was unable to walk …. for unknown causes.
She and her husband were at the airport when Pastor Adeboye arrived in Malaysia to welcome him … waiting at the gate as they did not allow her access to the restricted passenger area. Before the arrival of the evangelist who is the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, she had fasted for 2 weeks and spent time in prayers.
It happened when Pastor Adeboye came out from the airport to approach his car, her husband reached out to him to touch his hand even as they had prayed earlier that God will heal their daughter through the visiting evangelist. Immediately he touched the General Overseer, he walked to his daughter and touched her and spoke the word “In Jesus name – Rise up and walk” FULL POST

The Word teaches that God is love …and that His very nature is to love. The depth and width of this love is unfathomable to us…none but Christ - God Himself, has reached it to explain to us … but we have also Bible illustrations to explore various dimensions and levels, concluding that even at its most rudimentary – God’s love differs by light years from best human expressions. There are depictions of the word “love” ….from the brotherly, family “love” to the romantic … and the unconditional agape love in Christ. There has to be limited understanding of divine attributes because the created cannot fully grasp the nature and ways of the Creator. Still, in His Word, by His revelation – we find pieces of a puzzle which one day will be a perfect picture.
The favourite quote in I Corinthans 13 says Love is patient; kind and envies no one, never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offence…. keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over another's sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing it cannot face; no limit to its faith, its hope, and its endurance. Of the three things which last forever …faith, hope, and love; the greatest is love. FULL POST

The love of God does not exclude any class of individual and God will use any vessel He has chosen and is committed to prepare. God knows everyone who succeeds for Him will only do so if he is helped by Him, making brokenness, humility and trust in God much more valuable traits. Earthly possessions and fame can and do vanish overnight and so enduring spiritual inner strength gained through divine encounters counts much more. God is not looking for someone with a perfect performance, but someone with a right heart.
A celebrity or a superstar is someone with uncommon prominence who commands higher than average degree of public fascination and influence in the news media. Celebrities – usually found at the top of their career – perform marketing feats in advertisement of a wide range of consumer products and services like cars, clothing and almost anything money buys … so should they not do likewise in selling the gospel? … would people not respond more to the gospel when stars sing with grammy-winning voice or when the wit and charm of practiced performers are unleashed on congregations? But the gospel is not for sale, spiritual gifts do not carry a price tag and God is already surrounded in dazzling inaccessible light ..He does not need human glitter. FULL POST

Recent reports that the US may have to go alone, if it so decides, in military intervention against Syria as the British Parliament votes against military action will gladden many hearts. The fear of greater loss of lives and expansion of hostilities coupled with increasing global weariness of armed conflicts seem to outweigh the outrage caused by the inexcusable use of chemical weapons against innocent citizens. Consensus also eludes the UN in a resolution on military action even as the Obama Administration insists it has a duty to protect “national security interests”. Bible perspective on response to terrible injustice may be hard to swallow especially when you assume the place of direct victims.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord
There are times we would rather break the mirror than believe and adjust to behold a more pleasing image. Are we to follow peace with wicked and evil men? …why does the Bible say ALL …surely there must be exceptions. FULL POST

The Bible says the love of money is the root of many kinds of evil. Many will agree but are not as clear on what the love of money is and how to spot it. How can I know if I love money and not God? Mammon, the god of money lovers, cannot be loved together with God. So the Bible teaches. We can only love one, hating the other. Here are five ways to check yourself.
1.If you have a strong overriding drive to make cheap money, make it quickly and with as little effort as possible …then you probably love money. If you have often lost money due to careless risks - targeted by scams and which has put your family at risk – then you most likely are gripped by this vice. Effort, industry, research, preparation and due care which creates balance and slows down the process of wealth making are rudiments of Godly wisdom. Do you seek God’s wisdom in handling finances or always seeking money making shortcuts – even justifying these with scripture?

It is already commonly known that the vast majority of those who watch violent games do not go around killing their parents, what is not as clear is the extent to which these forms of entertainment can further distort and provoke the disturbed mind . Watching CNN Piers Morgan “Inside the Mind of a killer” interview Joshua Cooke - who “wanting to die” at 19 years shot both parents at their Virginia home in 2003 – raises old questions on the social responsibility of media. Another gang rape is reported in Mumbai india … many cases of molestation of women … almost creating a new social norm. Joshua said he had been thinking these thoughts for a long time until the particular day ...”after finishing watching all the violent video games… I turned on the Body Song and looked up at “The Matrix” poster…” I then decided to end my life and my parents"…Joshua acted on his decision.
