General Al-Sisi, the Quiet Pharaoh of Egypt

A Pharaoh that does not know Joseph may have emerged as the new strongman in Egypt- even as the “American trained General now makes it clear that he does not need or love America” …preferring the more stable strings of oil-rich Saudi and the United Arab Emirates to those of shifting Western democrats. Newsweek recently reports that Sisi had been long preselected as successor by Mubarak’s longtime friend and former Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohammed Tantawi, a man who “allegedly made great fortunes” in the generous Mubarak era. It does not surprise some that Mubarak may soon be free in a scenario that seems to have been painstakingly constructed over the years by Sisi. Morsi – not so perfect himself, is now perceived as imprudently naive in a nation where little has changed after much sacrifice of innocent young lives and ruins, in what many would have wanted to celebrate as a model of revolution. So what are the lessons ? FULL POST

Bill Gates, Discipleship and Gates

Bill Gates in a recent tweet pledged support for a new project “Big History”…an online learning menu offered by David Christian to spread understanding of the history of the universe and how humanity fits in. According to this often refined doctrine, the world started by a “Big Bang” 13.7 billion years ago and progressed through eight thresholds, specific events at which ingredients and the right conditions combine to permit leaps of increased complexity from nothing to the world we live today. God is nowhere in this new history curriculum. Bill Gates is an example of a true disciple, and David can expect that he will have enough to finish this “Tower”.

Christ called twelve, and spoke often on discipleship so we can discern if we are His or not. For the gospel and the Kingdom of God to be established … indeed for any agenda - there are costs to be borne … and not only by angels. His Disciples must be found. FULL POST

How to Find the Right Husband

Any seeking direction on the key decision of marriage can learn from the world view only to join the alarming divorce and abuse statistics … but in Bible times, there were “fairy-tale” marriages …that were blessed, fruitful and divinely destined. Ruth’s marriage to Boaz was an example. Boaz was rich, classy, respectful, royal and a good husband even though Ruth was a poor widower from the wrong clan. We can learn from Ruth.

Rth_2:8  Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: Rth_2:21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest. Rth_2:22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field. FULL POST

An Apology for Oprah Winfrey

We read that the Switzerland's national tourism board, on behalf of the country, has recently issued an apology to Oprah Winfrey after a racist shopkeeper refused to serve her. How are we to deal with situations like this as Christians? It may also surprise many to discover that many admired Christian preachers like Jonathan Edwards kept African-American slaves and the great legacy of theology they bequeathed the body of Christ did not deter them from purchasing fellow human beings to farm or for domestic labor.

Less than a decade ago …long before my retirement, I was employed by an International company that required short visits to the United States often to undergo trainings and sometimes in later years as faculty in an international class of younger analysts. I recall the shock at an incident when a note was placed on my faculty table with the following terse phrase… ”go home you ####, we do not want you here” … and another incident while on an evening stroll outside the facility ... stunned as law enforcement stopped to urge me to “behave myself”. My instinct was not to make an issue of these often brief but unpleasant encounters knowing selfishly that in a few days I would be in Nigeria. I felt only slightly burdened that others were not going to be as lucky… and perhaps there are justifications for the unjustifiable…I sense there are many unreported cases. FULL POST

Will Debtors go to Heaven?

Even in a nation like the United Kingdom where interest rates are said to be on the decline it was recently reported that at least 50% of the population still struggle with debt and many are shunning its toxin. The Archbishop of Canterbury wades into the sea of sharks to rescue its members as he calls for WONGA - a popular loan provider offering a new emerging brand of “no questions asked” lending at crippling costs – to come under closer regulatory scrutiny.

Why is the Church suddenly waking up to the curse of being a borrower? The reflection we see from the mirror of scriptures on debt troubles those who care to look at it … like the overweight damsel who must fit into a svelte evening gown. But more seriously we ask … will debtors go to heaven?

Deu_28:12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. FULL POST

Make Jesus your Business Partner

What is the point of gathering against the will and purpose of Him who will control it all - eventually. Many serve mammon as though mammon can challenge the reign of God. The worship of money is vain as Christ controls all the substance of the earth and the kingdoms bow to His purpose now and forever until He chooses to come and judge and burn up vanity

Genesis 47:14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.

Even Pharaoh serves ultimately the purpose of God. These are times when all that has been gathered bows to God, honors God either in service, judgment or in worship. God will ultimately do as He pleases - He proves that He reigns over everything ...even money. FULL POST

Queen Elizabeth’s Nurse, Royal Baby and Occultic Symbols

Indeed, only few can resist a good occult conspiracy tale (a la Gregory Peck in The Omen)  … and so when someone sends me a photograph from a link to an old article showing the Queen of England and a nurse coming out of Edward VII Hospital, London on March 3rd  … drawing attention to the nurse’s belt buckle …I sought to know more. According to the Library and Museum of Freemasonry, this unusual belt buckle, featuring the Masonic square and compass alongside a pentagram, was given to nurses who trained at the Royal Masonic Hospital, a private hospital for Freemasons and other fee-paying patients. “The Royal Masonic Hospital stopped existing in 1992 but its belt buckles are apparently still worn by “elite” nurses such as the one who treated the queen”. Another minor detail, Edward VII Hospital is where the Royal Duchess Kate got hospitalized due to a pregnancy-related illness, which led to the suicide of one of the nurses. So what? FULL POST

Immortality and the Battle to Defeat Death

If there ever was a concept of broad appeal, it could be the notion of defeating death. Newsweek 24th July 2013 cover article by Andrew Romano “You can live forever” updates on the latest thoughts in the search of the elusive elixir … celebrating that “the first person to live to 150 is probably already in middle age “ – according to de Grey who earned a Phd in Cambridge for his published work …”The Mitochondrial Free radical Theory of Aging” presenting the possibility of curing aging by conquering the diseases of old age. Still, the reality of Immortality is yet beyond the reach of human genius. But God knows man would want to live forever … indeed God made a provision for this in His original blueprint.

Gen 3:22  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Gen 3:23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. FULL POST

Healing a Zimmerman-Trayvonian Cause

The media opines once again in a landmark judicial situation much after time finally exhausts all stock in the granary of benefit of doubt. If the victim were alive, it would settle the many lingering unknowns… and we of course cannot trust the accused who has the natural duty of self-defense. The only hope for the deceased is for the voices of his kin to fight … for more than an eye for an eye. It is wisdom to be able to recognize and accept scenarios when we really do not know … but wisdom is unaffordable when fears and old wounds have already been raked by opportunist tabloid. I observe old demons freshly exorcised seeking unheeding minds to alight and the many movements rallying to defend the afflicted. Simon Peter once found himself defending injustice in a garden.

Luk 22:49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. FULL POST

Roswell Anniversary and UFO sightings

On July 8, 1947, a crash in Roswell, New Mexico, started a craze which may for some still be as intense as it was when 66 yrs ago, they first learned the crash in the desert had been labeled a UFO – later to be hastily re-labeled a weather balloon by government officials.

Three years ago a UFO sighting was also said to occur in China on July 7, almost exactly on the 63rd anniversary of news that a "flying disc" had been found in Roswell, New Mexico. Similar to the 1947 case, people either choose to believe or be skeptical that visitors have stopped by from outer space.

With advancements in technology, the difficulty in concealing the reality of aliens watching or visiting occasionally from another planet should be obvious. The proliferation of manned or unmanned flying contrivances of different genres continue to provide fodder for the media looking to milk another UFO story. But are we alone? The Bible answers with an emphatic no …Jesus Christ spoke himself of an extra-terrestrial event that happened …that he beheld. FULL POST
