I read a recent statistical report in CNN Belief Blog explaining that America’s Protestant pastors overwhelmingly reject the theory of evolution and are evenly split on whether the earth is 6,000 years old, according to a survey conducted in May 2011 just released by the Southern Baptist Convention. What also got my attention is that as much as 12% of protestant pastors surveyed agree that God used evolution to create people ... and over a quarter deny the reality of a literal Adam and Eve.
Galatians 5[9] A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump...A world statistical view may suggest that a large majority can be indicative of health but the Bible view is that a little leaven pollutes the entire lump. I discover an unbiblical and unhealthy tolerance for variation when we suspect them to be minimal. I found a very enlightening book recently by Al Mohler “The Disappearance of God “describing a fast growing trend of making the God of the Bible increasingly irrelevant even within the leadership of the fold - a kind of closet atheism ... and of a more aggressive strain of atheism in the larger environment that evangelises powerfully and seeks - if it cannot criminalise “faith” in God - to portray the faithful as dangerous to society ... attacking continually and unrepentantly even the most basic values of traditional Christianity. Mohler also suggests in his book a theological triage requiring Christians to determine the scale of theological urgency or doctrinal priorities associated with issues and debates. First-level issues would include those doctrines most essential to the Christian faith. I would suggest that creationism and a literal Adam belong to first-level theology. If man was not created by, for and in the image of God, the ground is set for more injustices and social experimentation against humanity. If a literal Adam did not fall, then most of what was said of Christ in the epistles would be meaningless.
Christ knew there would be strange pastors ... claiming in a parable that they crept in through the fence into the fold and continue to operate clandestinely – but what is remarkable now is the upsurge of new open and bold rebellion.
Jesus Christ spoke a parable John 10[1] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. [2] But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. [3] To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. [4] And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. [5] And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. [6] This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. [7] Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. [8] All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. [9] I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Christ likens the Christian to sheep bound in a fold ... only sheep – easy to lead, help, direct and teach - come through the door, Christ. The symbol of sheep has been discredited to mean gullible and vulnerable but it is the sheep of Christ who hear the truths of God and shut out strange thoughts. Still many refuse to be sheep and enter the fold but not through the door even becoming leaders. If Christ concluded that sheep who came in through the door will not hear strangers then those who have heard strangers and have even become “co-shepherds” are on an assignment of destruction. Christ calls these thieves and robbers with a wicked mission. Having as high as over 10% of leadership as killers, thieves and destroyers is a significant trend that should cause alarm.
Let me cut short this post... start 2012 with some plain discernment ... simply ask your pastor what he believes. In other words - conduct your own survey, if he falls in the 12% that believe in evolution or the over 25% that deny a literal Adam ...then Christ has already warned you that you have put yourself in the hand of a spiritual arsonist. Move elsewhere quickly while the establishment debates. It is not the devil that has come to steal, kill and destroy (at least not directly) Christ reveals him to be the man behind your pulpit who has picked up thought poisons from strangers with an agenda to spread it.
A comment on the CNN Blog states “Fundamentalist Christians state evolution is not true, while scientists who have dedicated their lives to analyze the empirical data say it is true. Which side is better informed?”
The Bible is not against science but unapologetically responds ...Galatians 1[9] As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Keep looking up to Christ
