America Independence Day Celebrations

Happy Independence America! But, the greatest freedom is not freedom to do what we want but freedom from sin. We have nothing to celebrate if we are still slaves to sin.

John 8[34] Jesus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Whoever commits and practices sin is the slave of sin.[35] Now a slave does not remain in a household permanently (forever); the son [of the house] does remain forever.[36] So if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free. Freedom is defined as the quality or state of being free - the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action. The liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another . It is the quality or state of being exempt or released usually from something onerous... the quality of being frank, open, or outspoken... unrestricted use.

However - economic, political and religious freedoms are illusory without freedom from sin ... as slavery to wickedness ensures these other freedoms only serve to corrupt.

Now...another celebration...see video below.

Proverbs 14[34] Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

The Bible says it is righteousness that exalts a nation and not gold in the world cup ... as winners are elated and losers mourn and cringe in shame...

Finney wrote in "Experiencing the Presence of God" that no act is innocent or right unless it proceeds from and is an expression of supreme love for God and equal love for man. He writes...

"No amusement is innocent if it does not glorify God or is pleasing to God. No amusement can be innocent that involves the squandering of precious time which is precious. No amusement can be innocent that involves an unnecessary expenditure of the Lord's money. No amusement can be innocent if its motive is merely to please and relax humanity and not related to love of God or glorify God in the least...They seem to assume the Lord's work in the sense of being a task and a burden. They think that to labour and pray and preach to win souls to Christ is so wearisome. Not to say irksome, that we need a good many play days and some perks. Pleaders for amusements assume that the love of Christ is not satisfactory. They think that we must resort to worldly amusements frequently to make life tolerable....This does not mean we do not rest at all or recreate or amuse ourselves, for we need to secure our health and vigour of body and mind to promote the use of God"

How much joy and enthusiasm is expressed in worship of Him who scored the greatest victory on Calvary? How spectacular a celebration can I contrive when I remember how He saved me from the power of the greatest show of power ever?

Collosians 2 [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Is it not instructive to observe that innate nature God has given us to rejoice, worship and be thrilled and excited in Him channelled to other causes... while our devotions must remain quiet, controlled and mirthless?

As we remember and pray for America - may the nations be also delivered from strange "innocent" but worthless amusements and may we be able to say like David ...

Psalm 69 [9] For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

God bless America. God bless you. Amen

Surrender your life to Jesus, today ... and find true freedom from sin.
