Fresh Oil for a Hurting Friend

text size A A A

Dear Friend, I received your letter only yesterday and thank you for your kind words concerning the devotional “Songs of Joseph” … we have never met, but you will know this reply is written especially for you when you read the words which I pray will encourage and richly bless you.

Most people, like the women caught in adultery, actually did what they were accused of … but Jesus Christ who foreknew the very worst in all of us, did not utter a word of rebuke … but instead offered her an unconditional hand of mercy and forgiveness that silenced all the spectators and caused the stones in their wicked hands to drop. In your case, you … like Joseph in the Bible, were wrongly accused and suffer innocently. Alas you are one of the few who Christ spoke of when on the mount He declared

Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

I do not know what you are going through and cannot pretend to understand your pains that will not go away, still I am certain you will find the grace to forgive, put the past behind you and apprehend the blessings that are yours. One day, God will use the very comfort that He is giving you by His Spirit to bring succor to the life of many others … then you will know that even your grief is not in vain and your tears are not wasted..

What else can be said … I received another note from another friend … it contained a poem urging us as pilgrims not to cling to present circumstances. It was written in March and entitled “My Best is yet to Come” ….I sense God wants this to be your constant affirmation … even when the worst is over and you finally discover that like Joseph … God meant it all for good.

If I am blind, dumb, and speech impaired,
If I am afflicted by known and unknown ailments,
Even if fear of death rears its head,
So far I am still in this land of the living,
I confess and affirm that my best is yet to come.

If I am poor and needy,
If my friends and family deny and abandon me,
Even if I am not sure of tomorrow’s meal,
So far I am still in this land of the living,
I confess and confirm that my best is yet to come.

If I can run swiftly than a gazelle,
If I can swoop down better than an eagle,
Even if my prowess is stronger than that of a lion,
So far I am still in this land of the living,
I still affirm that my best is yet to come.

If I can age far more than Methuselah,
If I have all the wisdom that is better than Solomon,
Even if I am richer than the richest man on earth,
So far I am still in this land of the living,
I affirm in Jesus name, my best is yet to come.

Finally, I do hope you enjoy your stay in the United States. Pastor E.A. Adeboye will be ministering at the Festival of Life at the Excel Centre in London – 18th October 2013; ( 7pm UK time) on the theme “Fresh Oil” … I sense you will be greatly encouraged if you can tune in … it should be easy to Google for the best live online link (OHTV).

My prayer, as you receive a refreshing that only the Holy Spirit gives, is that you will soon declare like Joseph did - God has been so bountiful to cause you to forget your toil and to be fruitful in the land of your afflictions. May God bless and keep you … till He returns.
