God is interested in the transformation of nations and has His blueprint. A nation transformed is seen when a nation is built on the principles of God's Word and infused by God's presence. For a nation to be great it needs the Spirit of God and the law of God. "See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it..." (Deu. 4:5-8) . Integrity and truth are vital to replace traditions and old unprogressive values.
In a transformed nation the divinely ordained institutions by God, fulfill their primary purpose. That is, as it relates to the traditional family: to procreate, educate and sanitize (health and welfare); for the State, to protect the righteous and punish the evildoer and practice justice for all; and for the church to win the lost, build and send. A nation transformed is filled with the glory of God. "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Hab. 2:14 . This nation experiences the power, the presence and the peace of God.
A nation transformed is weighed by the impact on individuals. "Transform the individual and you will transform the nation" ... Indeed people build nations - but moreso transformed and not a decadent people. A transformed Nation has a new definitive and vibrant culture to replace an amalgam of political turfs, tribal beliefs and ethnic prejudices. Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew said, "More than economics, more than politics, a nation's culture will determine its fate." The manifesto of the new school of thought on human progress and nation building is called, "Culture Matters: How Values Shape Human Progress," by Samuel P. Huntington and Lawrence E. Harrison. The concluding thought summarizes their findings. It offers insight into why some countries and ethnic/religious groups excel not just in economic terms but also with respect to consolidation of democratic institutions and social justice.
A nation transformed has transformational and deliberate leadership. Harvard Business School's Dr. John Kotter said change occurs only when the stage is set, the guiding team decides what to do and then makes it happen. It involves the following steps: (1) Create a sense of urgency (2) Pull together the guiding team (3) Develop the vision and change strategy (4) Communicate for understanding and buy-in (5) Empower others to act, (6) Produce short-term wins, (7) Don't let up, (8) Create a new culture. ...Transformation is not birthed in chaos ... it follows a staged relentless process.
A nation transformed has experienced the application of a Biblical Worldview to each of the eight main spheres of society. The main spheres/areas/domains of human life and society are: the arts, business, Church, media, education, family, governance, and health. This is the call by Jesus to the disciples, "Go therefore and make disciple of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
A nation that transforms goes through the stages of transformation. (1) Realization of Crisis/Need/Deficit, (2) Revelation from God to His servant, (3) Repentance, (4) Revival/refreshing of the spirit, (5) Renewal of the mind, (6) Reproduction of transformational leaders, (7) Reconciliation of all things to God. This is the operational phase in which a renewed Christian minority on God's agenda acts as salt and light wherever they are, repositioning their lives and the organizations they serve in all spheres of society to alight with God's purpose of reconciling all things to Himself, (8) Restoration/Transformation. Biblical transformation can be defined as the process of restoration to God's intentions of all that was broken when man rebelled against God in the Fall.
In a nation transformed the mind is without fear and the head is held high, words come out from the depth of truth , rain falls in its season - the weather is predictable (without drought or floods), the land has been healed and plants and the trees yield their fruit in season, families own their own homes, land and assets and these rights are secure, children are healthy and free from dangerous illness, mothers and fathers not only love the Lord but each other and their children and teach them to love the Lord, wages are fair and just, national wealth is shared, the vulnerable are protected and disputes are resolved justly. (Adapted from lecture by Dr. Luis Bush during the launch of Transform World Connections Singapore on 12th June 2007)
Christians are pilgrims and also catalysts for transformation of nations. Be at the 60th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God - themed "Come up Higher" Ministering: Pastor E.A. Adeboye : Monday 6th -12th August, 2012.
