Maya Calendar and Preparations for the End

text size A A A

Today, 21st of December, mystics, hippies and many wanderers will converge on the ruins of Maya cities to usher a new cycle in the Maya calendar, as others express fears that this will mark the end of the world. Another has said some new genres of evil will be released …some sort of demonic changing of the guards.

Fascination with the end of the world has always been with mankind. The disciples – apparently ashamed to be found also interested in this topic, came privately to Jesus.

Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Jesus said the final signs will be when this gospel is preached in all the world at a time of much spiritual deception, abundance of iniquity and a period that demands much endurance from persecuted saints who will be hated of all nations for the sake of truth. Jesus did not discourage enquiry on the end of time. Instead He taught about how to be prepared.

Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The days of the end will be like days of Noah - days of merry celebrations, fun and freedoms especially in marriage …but they will be days when the truths of God are disbelieved. Almost nobody believed Noah as he preached for decades …only his puzzled relatives and animals were ushered into the ark. Noah had no converts apart from His kin. Jesus warned that no angel in heaven knows this exact timing …only God the Father …to forewarn on any so-called supernatural revelations on calendars and dates. Christ however wanted the saints prepared … looking up and expectant.

It is also remarkable that Christ warns specifically about “cold love” … a love that is not kindled by the divine fire of the Holy Spirit. Cold love is a type of love, that has all the elements and guises of what we all call love … but it is cold not principally because it lacks the energy we are accustomed to expect in a warm expression but because it comes from a heart that is not on fire for God. Humanism that is without the fire of the Holy Spirit is a cold love. Many Christians – at the end - having long grieved the Holy Spirit will gradually descend into this kind of God-less love which wins accolades – but lacks the sacrificial fire to cross the line of risking hurts to self or forgoing reputation and rights in a manner that only God Himself is able to inspire. Beware.

As we ignore the deceivers and the false prophets …remaining under the blood of Christ for our protection against the worst of evils … be also prepared for the end. Endure and be always on fire. Let the fire show in your practical love. Do not trust your spiritual feelings. Rather, use your acts of practical love (inspired by the fire of the Holy Spirit burning in you) and sacrificial obedience in helping the unlovable and unwanted as your most reliable metric of your readiness.

Be amused if you must - but quickly forget the Mayan Apocalypse. It is only another of many predicted evil distractions. If you do not know Christ, today is a good day to come to Him. He is calling you to Him.
