Overflowing Joy

text size A A A

Shepherds were in the field keeping watch over their flock by night when the angel brought the news of great joy. The joy that is Christ is described as great and far reaching to all people all over the world. It will not be contained but it will spread till all hear the good news and are enveloped with the joy. The angel adds that there is no reason to fear.

Luk 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

The season is a good time to partner with God in the ministry of driving away fears … the fear of the unknown for God is omniscient – all knowing, the fear of failing because God declares we are more than conquerors, the fear of death … for He has come that we might have abundant life. Fear holds us back from moving forward when we should. Fear shrouds our dreams in doubts, suffocating initiative… but there is the joy that flows from our quickened spirit causing our soul to magnify God and sing new hymns of adoration.

The angel came at night … the period where fear finds an ideal environment to foster its wicked objectives. It may be that you cannot see the sun and it is not so clear how the future will unfold, but I want to declare that a glorious day is ahead and the morning of joy is only moments from dawning. When the morning breaks you will forget the times when it seemed there was no way out … when the morning breaks, the sheep under your care will be led again to good pasture to find the still waters. Your destiny will begin to prosper again and the long period of watching, the times of loss of sleep will be well rewarded.

The message of Christ is that of overflowing joy that has come to all people in all corners of the world, the joy of eternal salvation, peace, mercy and forgiveness flowing unstoppably through all the corners of the globe. Herod’s fits could not stop that joy from bursting out … the murder of infants could not hold down that joy even as the stars twinkled differently for the wise who brought gifts to the new born Saviour. Give your heart afresh to Him who came to be the joy of the whole earth and glow again as the fountain of joy springs out with living waters refreshing all that are around you. Do not keep the message of salvation and hope to yourself for the earth waits for it … let the joy flow, spreading afar across continents and near, encouraging a troubled neighbour. Merry Christmas as you celebrate Christ, the Joy that will never cease. Amen

All glory be to God on high,
And to the earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from Heaven to men
Begin and never cease."
