Sunday: Honoring the Sabbath...Navajo Family Missions Series Day 2... Taking Christianity Into the World

"He must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30

This is Day 2 of the Navajo Family Mission Series of our Weekly Family Trip To Serve the Navajo People of Pueblo Pintado. It is about sixty people who for an entire week lay down their jobs, vacations and responsibilities to be the very hands and feet of Christ. This is their story. Jesus often withdrew to the solitude of the desert to pray and be strengthened. Come along side us and see the changes of hearts, passions and lives as God joins us on our journey To catch a further look at our vision for our work there visit http://www.hiscpa.com/blog/2009/07/30/casting-a-vision-navajo-family-missions-taking-christianity-into-the-world/  If you and your church are encouraged by our journey, join us as we look to revival for the Navajo People, by taking Christianity Into the World

Day 2 - July 12, 2009 - Sunday

On Sunday morning, we had breakfast at 10:00 a.m. Our cooking team which included Tom, Penny, Robin, and Tommy are definitely some of the best cooks around. We had invited all of the churches in the Pueblo Pintado community to join us for breakfast and a church service. During breakfast, Emma shared pictures with us of her two daughters - Ashley and Analisa.

John D. started the service with a skit on challenges. Tommy who was Goliath came out issuing a challenge to the Israelites to fight him. He had a pan on his head and was beating another pan with a spoon. How else would someone from the kitchen crew fight? He was calling the Israelites chickens. McKenna who was David came out to fight Goliath. David was only a shepherd with a sling shot who had God to help him fight, but he was not afraid. He let God take care of his fears. David killed Goliath with the sling shot and then, cut Goliath's head off with his own sword. John D. told us that all of us have giants - jobs, school, peers, and marital problems. We all have huge challenges that we face, and they are real. He reminded us that God and one is a majority even if you face thousands.

John D. then shared with us the plan of salvation. He told us that: The Bible is God's Word. You cannot add to it or take away from it. It is perfect. Man is sinful. Our actual tendency is to do what we want to do. Christ went to the cross. Our acceptance of Jesus is our choice. We can only be saved by accepting Christ as our Savior. John D. laid a rug down on the floor. He threw a cross down and then threw nails on the cross along with two hammers. It sounded like the crucifixion. He told us to think about the crucifixion and the fact that Jesus chose to come even though He knew about the cross. He reminded us that our sin comes between us and Christ. Our own worst enemy is ourselves. We were then allowed to nail our sins on the cross. Once again, the sound mirrored the sounds that must have been heard at the crucifixion. This time was very moving to each person. John D. closed out the service by saying that Jesus chose to respond, not to react. He made the ultimate sacrifice by Himself. He did not forget Who He was or what He came here for.

That afternoon, four vans of team members went out into the Pueblo Pintado community to deliver flyers for Vacation Bible School. Grace was in Tami D.'s van. She really enjoyed the scenery and the horses. At first, they let Amber and Ella carry the flyers to the doors by themselves. Everyone was surprised to see so many pets - from dogs and cats to goats and sheep. Mark E. was shocked at how the homes looked. Then, they came to a house where there were several kittens so more team members joined Amber and Ella in giving out flyers. The women were very shy. The older men were hanging out in the shade. The homes were simple, but they did not take away from the beauty of the scenery. Melarie was their guide. She shared about the funeral of her uncle. She said that funeral lasted about 1 hour and that the family did not bathe until 4 days later to have a time of reflection and remembrance. Grace showed Amber how to take pictures with her cell phone. Amber enjoyed taking pictures and showing everyone. Also, the group made two videos with Ella as the narrator. McKenna reconnected with a girl that she had gotten to know last year. When Tami D. stopped the van at the Town Hall Center, a birthday party was in progress. Melarie explained that at birthday celebrations, everyone brings a gift, and everyone gets a gift so that no one is left out. The last stop was at the home of a grandmother who did not take a flyer. A little boy was looking out of the house with longing eyes that said that he wanted to be a part of the fun.
