Atlanta CPA Encourages Taxpayer to Do What You Can to Avoid an Audit while Keep Your Tax Bill as Low as Legally Possible

Atlanta CPA Encourages Taxpayer to Do What You Can to Avoid an Audit while Keep Your Tax Bill as Low as Legally Possible

Avoiding the most common pitfalls taxpayers make is critical to your personal financial success. Careful discernment and wise application of tax law is an essential and critical part of avoiding otherwise avoidable IRS notices, penalties, responsibilities, IRS audits and amendment of prepared returns. As a Body of Believers, we are commanded to give unto Caesar what is Caesar's. As such and based on the premise of the U.S. tax system, we as taxpayers are solely responsible for the initial filing of our returns and the fair and just filing of our lowest legal possible tax. Avoiding these top pitfalls that many fall prey to will be an integral step in the proper preparation of your return. Below is a sample letter we might forward to a taxpayer to help ensure that all income items are reported and that all legally deductible items are captured.

Below is a list of Data needed for your personal return. ASAP after I get that along with your corporate data I will get the returns completed and out your way ASAP.

-It appears you are renting your old home here. If so, please compete the attached being sure to prorate items between the time of personal use versus renting. Also, I will need the mortgage statement on this property and the cost/tax basis so that I can record depreciation.

-Do you rent or own in Georgia as I did not see any mortgage statements.

-I did not see any information on the moving expense reimbursement you had mentioned. Please forward.

-Did you have any other income such as capital gains, distributions from pensions, interest, dividends etc.

-I did not see the property tax on the cars.

-I need the flea market/garage sale value and itemization of the items you gave to Goodwill.
