Daily Devotions for Mission Trips

Spiritual Journey Ahead -- Day 1

Over the next several days our focus on taking each of you on a spiritual journey of a lifetime and one I promise, that if you let go and let God, that you will never forget. During our trip and beforehand in prayer, we have readied ourselves for the journey ahead. Our Journey and our Spiritual Walk is designed to take your Faith to yet a higher level still. Our journey will be one for ALL of us, from the youngest to the most wise. As you ready yourselves for this week, spend time going in prayer and thanksgiving for the miracles of faith and growth that God has in store for each and every one of us.

We are called to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ himself on this trip, and we need all of our friends and fellow Believers praying for us and we set out on our journey as we ready ourselves for the calling on our lives. Our mission is to empower ourselves through knowledge, to grow deeper in our faith, to become a disciple and missionary in our everyday living, and to teach others.

My goal for each of you is tremendous spiritual growth and awakening of the Holy Spirit in you that you have never before experienced. Pray with me that God blesses and uses us to do His bidding. Be ready! Be prepared! God is about to do great and marvelous things through and with YOU!!!

Tell Everyone -- Day 2

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 25:19-20

Dear Child of God,

I have called you to do a Great Thing. I want you to put down your cell phones, computers, the Internet and all the other things you are doing to focus on Love. This week you will be my Hands and Feet to your neighbors, friends, the people you work and got to school with as well as a few people you do not know yet. During this week, I will guard your steps, give you the words to say and help you fulfill the Destiny I have set out before you. Because of your obedience I will rain down great blessings in your life and guard your heart. You are mine and I will never let you go. You are mine and you will one day, you will be with me forever. I love you with all my Heart and I deeply appreciate and adore this great trip of love to my people, whom I too indeed came to serve and love. You are all part of my Body and in you and through you, we will do great things.

I will love you forever!!!! Jesus Christ

Knowing God -- Day 3

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:1-2

If we love God, we will want to do what we can to learn who he is, how to talk to him and how to use His word to guide our thoughts and actions. By surrendering our will to his, letting go of the world and grabbing hold of Biblical truth allows us to be best prepared for what life will bring.

Five Ways to Grow Closer to God

-Know How to Pray. Matthew 6:7 "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words." The Lord's Prayer is the Master, Jesus, taught us how to pray. By offering our thoughts and concerns to God are we best able to discover and know His will for our lives.

-Know How to Study God's Word. Just as we seek to learn skills in our lives for educational and job improvement skills so should we delve into His word. It is at this time when we will see the most positive and exponential growth in our lives as we take full responsibility and accountability for our spiritual life.

-Know How to Not be Too Busy by Having Margins. Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God." If we are too busy in our lives, we will be too busy to hear the prompting of the Holy Spirit or to do his bidding when He calls.

-Know How to Seek Your Destiny. Psalm 73:16-17 " When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny." It is when we begin to see God's hand in the whole of our lives that we are best able to discover our true destiny.
-Know How to Claim Bible Verses as Your Own. (Psalm 1:1-2) When Life's 9/11's leave you stunned, claiming God's word as your own will remind you of Heaven's power and your ability to both overcome and persevere.

Be Like God -- Day 4

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2

Do you have "Statusitis?" Do you care more about the world or about God? We are told in the New Testament in Romans 12:2 we are told to not be like the world but to conform our mind and ways to His. Living in the way of the world is a recipe for failure, while living for the Kingdom offers immediate peace and eternal awards.

Five Ways to Determine if you have "Statusitis"

-Are you more concerned about the way you look or about what you think? If you spend more time in front of the mirror or in God's word or if you spend more time looking at fashion magazines than the Godly training of your mind, then it is time to re-group and re-prioritize.

-Are you more concerned about what your friends think or What God thinks? Listening to the gossip of the day is a recipe for disaster. Leaning into and towards God's truths and away from the world's turbulence is a path toward true freedom.

-Are you more concerned about social events or Church events & God moments? There is nothing wrong with social events, in fact, every good and perfect gift is from God. However, if social affairs rather than God's desires for your life indicates it is time to re-group.

-Are you more concerned with athletics, work, kids or with God? Knowing who you are in God is more important than being a wife, husband, sibling, or child. Though God tells us we are to take care of our bodies, families and our responsibilities, we are not to worship them. Putting anything before God is indeed the worship of false idols.

-Are you more concerned with what you have or who God made you to be? Nothing you presently have will be taken with you when you leave this earth so it is better to travel light. It is not wrong to have nice things, but for those who live for them is choosing to live outside of God's will.

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15

Made for a Purpose -- Day 5

"So you are no longer a slave, but a son [daughter]; and since you are a son [daughter], God has made you also an heir." Galatians 4:7

Discovering your destiny, who you are in God and what exactly you were made for is the mark of an active and mature Believer. Our Christian walk is full of special divine moments that only we can fulfill but there is a much greater vision for our lives that only He can fulfill. By seeking daily His purpose for our lives are we best able to learn and discover the many miraculous things we can do through and with His name.

Know Who You Are and Your Powers

-You are beautifully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." God made you for a unique and special purpose and it is up to each and every one of us to lean into God and His word to discover what we are here for.

-You can do great miracles in Jesus name. Matthew 17:20 "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

-Faith will Always Win Out. God made us to be a Body of Believers who both overcome obstacles and this world. For with God we can do all things.

-Made for a Purpose. Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Even before we were born he knew us and set us apart to go great things in His name. All we have to do to fulfill our destiny is to listen to that still small voice of the Holy Spirit as he prompts us to deed and action.

Being Still -- Day 6

"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14

In our human frailty we most often do exactly what is not needed. We strive to fix and address life issues in our own right. I have learned, through God's grace, that my first charge in the face of adversity is to be still; for it is only by our inactivity are we able to see what God might have us do. During my time of stillness I have learned to look to the Heavens and to ask God, if he needs me; for I worship a God of great power who does not need me to affect His will. Only if God needs me, do I need to respond to trials and tribulations about me as often these are events well beyond either my control or influence. Also I worship a God who will fight for me, and frequently all I am required to do is to listen and be still.

Traits of an Obedient Life -- Day 7

-You do things the first time asked (Delayed Obedience is Not Obedience). Just as a soldier who in battle in battle might wait to duck, those losing his life to gunfire, so are there consequences to delayed obedience. Though at any time in our lives we are able to repent and to turn from sin and obey God, waiting does have its consequences. Doing things we ought to do the first time can help us keep good grades in school, our jobs at work and our spouses at home.

-You live longer (The only Commandment with a Promise). God promises that for those who obey and respect their parents that they will live longer. Talk about a commandment obeyed with a reward!

-You do not follow the crowd (Exodus 23:2). Narrow is the way into Heaven but wide is the path to destruction. Following the road less traveled will take you to higher heights, a better life and an eternal reward.

-A request is a polite order (Free Will). God allows us to chose but in our choices there are consequences if we chose poorly. Listening to our parents, teacher, bosses, church and all those in authority will result Heavenly rewards and a more sinless life.

-You will go where No Man/Woman has gone before. The Christian walk and life is for eagles who want to soar. Though God made us all different and unique, He sees us each and every one as His. By living with God and according to his precepts we are able to live an abundant and full life.

-Live in faith

-Be an Over-comer

-Be ready and Open....Live Expectantly

I Double Dog Dare You!! -- Day 8

Dare to Attempt Something so Great for the Kingdom of God that it is doomed to failure, lest Christ be in it!

Frequently Try Something so BIG, that you will fall flat on your face, unless God helps you and provides a way.

-Look for things that Others would tell you are impossible. (With God all things are possible) Matthew 19:26

God is looking for those who are willing to do His bidding. Lean on the power of God, and not that of your own while realizing that all things are possible with Him.

-Keep an eye out for unique opportunities to serve God. Think "outside the box." (His Ways are Not Our Ways).

Are you supposed to lead a mission trip? Are you supposed to lead a Bible Study Group to children, adults or seniors? Are you supposed to develop your own Ministry? If God leads you to it, He will lead your through it. Learn how to listen to God's prompting and His will for your life.

-You are uniquely Destined. Jeremiah 29:11 God did not create you to be just one of the crowd. God has great plans for you and your life giving you a hope and a future. Developing a attitude of discovery and openness to Him, is your best way to learn where you are to be best used, given the unique talents and desires He alone gave.

-Don't be afraid to ask for the Favor of a King (Nehemiah did it though he risked death). One of the best ways to discover if God is in a path you feel led to pursue is whether He grants favor along the way. God will bless and enable plans that are in accordance with his bidding but you have to ask for favor.

-Be open to the leaning of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 26:42 He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." It is normal and O.K. to be afraid, it is not OK to walk away. Jesus walked in our shoes and as such experienced everything we did including fear. Jesus, to face is fear, prayed and upon seeking God's will and strength pursued with perseverance the path that had been set out for him.

-Be available. Mark 14:36 "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will." Jesus made himself available and realized that it was upon his shoulders alone to accomplish the task set out before him. However, he did not do it alone but in the power and support of his Heavenly Father.

You Are Uniquely Poised -- Day 9

Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.

You have just completed a eight day program geared towards radically changing the way you do "church." God desires for our lives to be one of great joy, peace, growth and accomplishment. As you graduate from this program the below steps will do much to help keep you on task as the 9th day (the rest of your life) is lived for the One Purpose You Were Intended.

Five Ways to Be on Guard

-Be an "Energizer for Jesus." Just as the Energizer Rabbit could not be stopped so should your faith be strong and undeterred. Standing on the rock of our faith and in the power of Jesus we should live victoriously knowing we have already won, regardless of what lays ahead.

-God is looking for a few good men/women. Matthew 7:14 "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Just as the Marines are looking for the few who want to live in mastery of their lives, so is God looking for those who are willing to train their mind spiritually putting on the very armor of God. Similarly, an athlete who excels at his sport is one who is dedicated to his craft and the constant practicing of his craft and the fundamentals.

-Be ever Ready. 2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." I believe that most often the life the difference between ultimate failure and fantastic success is simply the difference of taking one more step. Don't ever give up, live in God's will and you will live victoriously and experience a life of unparalleled success. Though it may not be success the way the world sees it, but one of far greater importance and eternal reward.

-Know your Enemy's Tricks. 1 Peter 5:8 "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Most of all human failings are all own fault choosing to go our own way. The devil will do anything that he can to lead you astray. Be wary of what others say to you ensuring that all you do and think aligns with His goal for you and your life. Stay on Eternal Patrol being sure not to fall for the evil one's snares.

-Live Expectantly. 2 Timothy 4:6-8 "For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. No one, no not one, can stop us if we stay on task. Living knowing your eternal destiny fighting for what is right, letting God be the judge, and living for the way when we can hear God say "well done my good and faithful servant."
