Picking the Right Accounting Package
Picking the Right Accounting Package
Atlanta CPA Advises America Entrepreneurs
An accounting package which has a balance sheet and profit and loss capability is a great start to being able to track your business transactions accurately and efficiently. Generally speaking for many small businesses QuickBooks is good system and often has much more capability than you will ever need. However this program is not a universal fit for everyone and you should take care to carefully evaluate your needs to ensure that you select a system which will work for you long term. Special consideration, for example, should be given if you need a POS/Point of Sale System, detailed inventory costing/tracking/and valuation, or if your business will require a multiple user system.
Being astute at running your business does not make you one that should assume the responsibility of accounting for your business. By applying our decades of experience we are well suited to guide you to track the financial and operational affairs of your business.
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and introduce your business to me earlier today. I was very impressed with your knowledge, values and straight forward approach. I referred you today an associate who recently purchased a distributorship business and he is looking for a CPA.
On another note, if we were to go with you is there a software system you prefer to work with? I will be hiring a bookkeeper as the Office Manager and we are trying to decide what accounting package to buy for our internal bookkeeping and financial statement needs. I'd love to get your thoughts before we make a purchase we regret. With Gratitude.
Below is my response:
It was great to talk to you and I look forward to serving as your CPA for many years to come. Thanks for the referral; I will look forward to their call. Feel free to forward them a copy of the below firm information.
For most new business owners, absent any tracking needs for inventory, I would suggest QuickBooks as it is relatively inexpensive, widely used and well supported. I look forward to getting the process started.
For Your Personal Income Tax Return please be sure that property taxes on cars are listed and let me know if your expenses are against your Form 1099/independent contractor income and what you did to earn monies.
This will confirm our conversation that I suggest you get to me ASAP a copy of your year to date internal financial data (using the checklist on the contact page of my web-site) so we can tax plan for this year accordingly.
Please be advised that after either your company gets to ten million in sales or the average of the prior three years of revenue in exceeds three million in sales that IRS tax law requires us to change to an accrual basis for income tax filings.
In the future I suggest we get financial from you each quarter based upon your firms size and growth.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. John Dillard CPA
