Serving Displaced Families

Serving Displaced Families of Gwinnett

Hope this finds you having a great start to your week and staying warm.  I know most of you will be with family, some of you will be down with Pastor 7 and others will be off celebrating Christmas far away...however, for those of you who are looking for something fun, different and exciting to do on Christmas Day...have I got that something.  As many of you know, Gwinnet County has and is ill-prepared to handle the influx of displaced/homeless families/individuals who are growing and growing.  Because there is lack of shelter and support, many of these families have started staying in the extended stay hotels.  But although they have a roof over their head, they pay week by week and it leaves little money to do anything else so....Christmas Day, a bunch of us are going to pile up and head to as many extended stays as will have us and serve these wonderful people a real Christmas Dinner.

A group of people did this at Thanksgiving and were so blessed and honored to be able to spend time with the families who have found themselves without home, work, and transportation.  As this is our first year doing this we are kind of learning as we go.  Right now we have 2 extended stay hotels that we are sending people to.  There are about 90 people total - all of them displaced families.  We are working on food assignments, motel assignments, etc.  We will probably be serving lunch around 12:00-12:30 on Christmas Day and will probably be there for a couple of hours.  This is a great opportunity to sit and talk with families, to get to know them, to hear their stories and be one on one with people.  There are lots of kids as well who don't get a lot of opportunities to play outside and hang out.  If you think you might be interested in helping us by cooking and serving, please let me know OR, if you would be willing to cook an extra casserole or dish while you are cooking your Christmas meal, for us to take with us, please let me know.  Have a blessed, blessed Christmas...isn't it awesome that Mary obeyed, Joseph understood, and God gave them a beautiful, glorious, wonderful son that would save us all?

If you cannot join us in Gwinnett see what you can do to serve those less fortunate in your community...They are waiting.
