At The Feet of Christ
Dedicated to the girl who knows who she is :)

I was running an hour behind schedule when I rushed into her house that morning. The house was a mess, and as I clenched my teeth, my tongue clicked three times in a "tsk, tsk, tsk" sound. How on earth was I going to keep the schedule today? Sigh....my first order of business was to start the laundry then from the laundry move to the dishes maybe muttering a “Good Morning” in between. From the dishes I headed to the trash, creating a grocery list in my head, as I went. “Damn I’m late” I thought as I put the trash in the container and rushed back into the house to make her breakfast. Only as I was setting her oatmeal on the table did I look at her for the 1st time that morning, and FROZE. She was in trouble…big trouble, and I hadn’t noticed the slur in her voice until she said, “I don’t feel so good”.

Crafty little cuss as he is; the devil really is in the details. I had ONE job, ONE…SMH. We all do it. In her quest to ready dinner, Martha was so busy with details that she failed to realize what her sister Mary had already knew. “Jesus, make her HELP me!” Martha pleaded as Mary sat at the feet of Christ and ignored the help her sister needed. Jesus, knowing the "detail" character of Satan, simply responded, “What she does is right”. The Rule of Love doesn’t mandate we complete as many projects as we can in a given time, but that we just simply Love first. The Big Picture, John 3:16, makes our job very clear. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whomsoever believes shall not perish, but have everlasting life”. In other words, God wants to lose NO ONE, therefore, He doesn’t give a hill of beans when the dishes get done. Only you and SATAN actually care about the housework....(smile). Martha had spent so much time in the prep work for a dinner attended by Jesus, that she forgot that Jesus was already THERE....and there sat The Devil, hiding in the details, laughing at his job well done. Listen, I've done it too.....smart phones in a church with WiFi....and there sits Jesus....waiting.....

Before He left; Jesus gave Peter an insight into how he would serve Him. Peter, looking at John asked Jesus, “What about HIM?”. I can see the look on the face of Christ as He gave an inward sigh and said, “Don’t worry about him…do what I tell YOU to do”. Peter knew Jesus better than anyone else, and still worried about John. It’s amusing, because that’s how we act in the back seat of the Family Truckester. It’s like my kids yelling, “She’s bothering me” or my personal favorite, “I’m not touching you” with God up front threatening, “I swear to ME if you don’t knock it off; I’m going to turn this world around”. We worry, we stress, we strain about everything ELSE; but what we’re supposed to be worrying, stressing and straining about. He’s gay, she’s a tramp, he’s a dog, he’s cheating, she’s lying, THEY’RE stealing, ”but Daddy….what about THEM?????” and there goes the eye roll and inner sigh of the Father. Take your eyes off John 3:16, and all you have is WORKS. Jesus had it right. Mary was doing what she should have been doing at the feet of Jesus. Ironic that like Mary, we have Christ with us everyday, and still chose to be BUSY.....tsk, tsk, tsk. The Big Picture comes with one simple, set of instructions…. To Love…….so that He loses no one….everything else, is details. Excuse me a moment….”No Merrill, you STILL have to do the dishes”. Sheesh, he’ll do anything to get out of them. Be Blessed. Remember you set the Tone, you ARE the Example. BE KIND to each other. Show GRACE and MERCY to all those who cross your path today. With your Daily Affirmations complete, enjoy your Day.
