Heaven Bound
If salvation can be attained only by working hard, then surely horses and donkeys would be in heaven. (Martin Luther)
My friend, Dan, once told me of a man who died. When he arrived at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter told him they had a point system whereby the guy could gain entrance, based on the good that he had done in life. "Well," he said, "I loved the same woman for 50 years and never even in my mind was unfaithful to her."
"That's worth three points," St. Peter said.
"I set up a soup kitchen for the poor, financed it from my own wages, and ran it for 25 years."
"That's wonderful," St. Peter said. "You get five points for that. You only need 995 points more."
"There's no way I'm going to get in!" the man cried out "Unless God shows mercy on my miserable soul!"
"That's the answer we're looking for up here," St. Peter said. "Come right on in!"
Heaven is with me, helping me to be good and to do good. However, the grace of God through Jesus Christ is going to give me entrance on that day, and I'm looking forward to the trip.
Heavenly Father: Thanks for the invitation You give to me to come unto you. Thanks that I don't have to try to work to deserve your kindness.
