God bless the people in our lives who make us laugh. I read in a Pickles comic strip once, "Laughter is like changing a baby's diaper. It doesn't solve any problems permanently, but it makes things more acceptable for a while." The great Nineteenth Century preacher Henry Ward Beecher said, "A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs — jolted by every pebble in the road."

The Bible says, "may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful," and Yeats' fiddler of Dooney made the wise observation that

...the good are always the merry
 Save by an evil chance

I'm thankful for having people in my life who are glad to make me happy, and for a faith that makes cheerfulness reasonable.

Heavenly Father: Thanks for the gift of laughter. Thanks for the people around me who cheer me up and make me laugh.
