 “I can’t forgive him, he hurt me too much” “My dad was never there for me, that’s why I’m in this mess, I’ll never forgive him for neglecting his responsibilities” “My mum is never understanding, I hate her for taking my child hood away” these are the many clichés people who are hurt go about with. If you search deep down in your heart, there are tons of reason why you should never forgive people who hurt you.

But let’s face it, as you go through life and interact with others, there is no doubt that once in a while, you will be hurt by someone and in most cases people closest to you. So, how do you deal with such offense without holding on to the venom of hatred that was engendered by the behavior that caused the hurt? I am glad to show you the best way possible – forgive.

One of life most potent forces though unattractive is forgiveness; it is one of the best things you can do for your psychology and spirituality. It is a decision to fill yourself with love and extending that same love to the person that offended you. Amazingly, if you’re an intuitive reader, there are many self-help books that will teach you how to forgive people who have hurt you at one point or the other in your life.
But before you grab that book, are you still in doubts as to the power of forgiveness? The following reasons are why you should give forgiveness a chance:

1. It Is A Gift To Yourself:
One of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself is to forgive. When you are hurt, most times you are tempted to think that you are letting someone off the hook, but that is not so. In fact, you are doing yourself a favor by forgiving them; you are not only going to get to sleep well at night, but you will also free yourself from feelings of anger and hurt. Without mincing words, forgiveness is the only antidote that will give you that peace of mind that has long eluded you.

2. Forgiveness Shows Strength
Contrary to what you may have been led to believe, forgiveness is not a show of weakness; rather it shows you are stronger because you realize that only by letting go of resentment will you find that inner peace and happiness. Mahatma Gandhi puts it better when he said “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

3. It Shows You Love Yourself
Who can love yourself better than you do? One of the surest proofs of your love for yourself is by forgiving others when they hurt you. That way, you let go of all toxicity as you free yourself from all anger, resentment, and bitterness. While you should not suppress your feelings, be quick to forgive. Let go of the hurt and offense and allow love prevail. Remember, forgiveness is like the lowest point of any man’s life. There you can’t amount to anything good. If you want to become the best you were designed to be, you must learn to forgive.

4. It Helps You Find Peace
Do you want to find peace of mind? I will show you the shortest route – forgiveness. When you let go of any grudge and resentment that you might have been holding on to, you find peace of mind. The moment you say to yourself “it’s time to let go, I’ll forgive,” you will feel your burden lightened, and you are bound to find peace instantly.

5. You Will Be Forgiven
Life is a give and take, what we sow is most definitely what we will reap. And since we are humans we are bound to make mistakes, the more we forgive others, the more others too will forgive us when we step on their toes. So, the next time someone offends you, show them how you feel but when you are done, release them from your heart by letting go of all the hurt they must have caused you.

Finally, I leave you with the words of Barnard Meltzer;

“When you forgive, you in no way change the past - but you sure do change the future”
