Super Bowl’s Soft Porn

text size A A A

As you sit down to watch the big game with your family—do you wonder what those commercials are doing to your kid’s brain?

Super Bowl commercials often get more notoriety than the game itself. Granted, some commercials are hilarious and worthy of their appeal. But many are sixty-seconds of sexist garbage leading to women’s self-image woes while giving young guys the impression that sex rules.

Commercials with shock-value have gradually desensitized viewers. Yet, few women have the total self-confidence not to be affected by the brazen show of all that silicone-enhanced skin. Women wonder if their men are attracted to it and then look in a mirror to see how they compare.

It isn’t possible to measure up ladies. This is a soft porn contest without a winner—unless you count the winners from the lucrative Madison Avenue advertisement agencies. Sex sells and women pay for it. The only recourse half the population has is to refuse to support those offensive advertiser: Turn off the garbage TV programs and don’t pay for Hollywood trash.

For the past several years I’ve received a steady diet of emails from OneMillionMoms. This Christian organization effectively mobilizes like-minded women to take action.

I don’t need to support companies that use sex to make money. OneMillionMoms lets you know who is guilty, and they provide a pre-written email you can forward to the offender. It’s so easy to make it hard on corporations exploiting sex. And they’re successful! Why not join in and know you’re helping to make the Super Bowl about football rather than a sexual showcase.
