The Information Highway of the Bible
In the last couple of centuries or so, the world has witnessed an industrial revolution that eventually morphed info an age of computers and information technology. An information highway made up of a vast network of roadways has given us access to ever increasing information and knowledge. As Daniel 12:4 says "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."
There's an information highway in the Bible that few people tap into. It's a highway of knowledge and understanding of the ways of God that begins in Genesis and culminates in the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ. It is a river of life to those who acquire this information; a river flowing with counsel, knowledge, understanding and wisdom of God. If we want the peace that man experienced in the Garden of Eden, all one has to do is apply what is said in the psalms, proverbs, gospels, and epistles found in the Bible.
What is the source of knowledge and understanding? The source is God, for Proverbs 2:6 says, "For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding." The figure in Revelation 1 has a two edged sword coming out of his mouth. Words come out of the mouth. The sword is wisdom. The two edges are knowledge and understanding.
At the time of Jeremiah the prophet, the people were no longer drinking from the river of life, as Jeremiah 3:22, 23 says, "For My people are foolish. They have not known Me. They are silly children, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; and the heavens, they had no light." This passage references the beginning of the Holy Scriptures, for Genesis 1:2, 3 says, "The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep... Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light." Perhaps the source of the river lies here.
There are two Greek words used in the New Testament; Logos and Rhema. Logos is the word that became flesh and dwelt among us. In the Logos lies knowledge. 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, "For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." And we find in Ephesians 6:17 "...the sword of the Spirit, which is the rhema of God." It is the rhema of the Holy Spirit that provides understanding. Ephesians 3:3-5 says, "how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets."
Exodus 25:22 says, "And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim..." Perhaps the cherubim represent the words Logos and Rhema or knowledge and understanding of the ways of God, and perhaps the two olive trees dripping into the bowl in Zechariah 4:3 represent knowledge and understanding as well. The information highway or the river of life seems to flow from Genesis 1 to the two cherubim in the Holy of Holies, to the warnings of Jeremiah, to the two olive trees, to the two swords mentioned in Luke 22:38, to the two-edged sword in Revelation 1, and finally to the last two witnesses of Revelation 11:3.
The Lord said in Jeremiah 3:15, "And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." As Christians, we have access to this information highway. However, I fear that many have become like the silly children of Jeremiah's day, lacking knowledge and understanding of the ways of God. The worldly information highway is a way of life, but the Biblical information highway is the way to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.
