Today we are hosting one of my students of the biblical Hebrew, Louis Cladder from Netherland! Thank you Louis for sharing your believes with us.

The word for God in the Hebrew Bible is Elohim. This is a plural form while our God is one. Some people say that it is just a "majestatis pluralis" and this could well be the case. Nevertheless, there is another explanation.
First of all I want to quote a verse from Isaiah 48:16

קִרְבוּ אֵלַי שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאת לֹא מֵרֹאשׁ בַּסֵּתֶר דִּבַּרְתִּי מֵעֵת הֱיֹותָהּ שָׁם אָנִי וְעַתָּה אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה שְׁלָחַנִי וְרוּחֹו׃

"Come near me and listen to this: "From the first announcement I have not spoken in secret; at the time it happens, I am there." And now the Sovereign LORD has sent me, with his Spirit"

God speaks in this verse and yet he tells to be send by God, with his Spirit. It seems that the God, who is one, holds more entities.

Other examples about the plural God, who is one, can be derived from the "new testament". Of course the "new testament" is for Jews not considered "Canonical" but a big part of the text of the "new testament" holds quotes from the Torah and it completely supports the Torah. It supports the Torah also in the case that the Torah uses the word "Elohim" for God.

First of all the gospel of John starts with:

בראשית היה הדבר והדבר היה את האלהים ואלהים היה הדבר׃

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This means there are, at least two entities: The Word and God. At the other hand, the Word is completely God.

The other text I want to mention is from the 1st letter of John 5:7

כי שלשה המה המעידים בשמים האב הדבר ורוח הקדש ושלשתם אחד המה׃

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (King James)
