The mark of Cain

"And the LORD said unto him: 'Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.' And the LORD set a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him."
Genesis 4:15

In the book of Genesis we can find the first murder in the Bible and history's first murder: the murder of Abel by his brother Cain.

According to traditional interruption, after Cain killed Abel God set a mark on Cain's four head. The mark of Cain is sometimes understood as a sign given to Cain to reassure him and to bring shame on him.Another point of view claims that the mark indicate that Cain was under divine protection. The point is that the mercy of God is protecting Cain.

According to the pseudo of Jonathan translation,
The mark of Cain is one of the letters of God's name
There is also a very interesting Christian point of view that says that the mark of Cain was actually a dog which kept Cain from getting hurt.
