"And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them."(Exodus 7:5)
The 10 Plagues of Egypt are the ten calamities imposed upon Egypt by G-d, to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelite slave to go.
However, According to the Bible the actual reason for the plagues appears to be Pharaoh's response to Moses's request that the Hebrews be released:
"And Pharaoh said: 'Who is the LORD that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go."(Exodus 5:2)
The 10 Biblical Plagues are:
1. Blood. (Dam)
2. Frogs (Tsifardeah)
3. Lice (Kinim)
4. Gnats and flies (Arov)
5. Disease on livestock (Dever)
6. Unhealable boils (Shkhin)
7. Hail and thunder (Barad)
8. Locusts (Arbeh)
9. Darkness (Choshech)
10. Death of the first-born of all humans and animals. (Makat b'chorot)
If we take a closer look at the list, we can see that the first 3 plagues are the most minor plagues, but has Pharaoh refused to release the Hebrews, G-d sent worst, and much more painful, plagues upon Egypt.
Although G-d permitted the people of Israel to face the first three plagues (blood, frogs, and lice), he exempted them as the plagues worsened.
One might wonder whether the Plagues were necessary or maybe this punishment was too hurtful.
Without a doubt, there isn't one truth.
