In Genesis 6:1-4 we read:

" וַיְהִי כִּי-הֵחֵל הָאָדָם, לָרֹב עַל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה; וּבָנוֹת, יֻלְּדוּ לָהֶם. וַיִּרְאוּ בְנֵי-הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת-בְּנוֹת הָאָדָם, כִּי טֹבֹת הֵנָּה; וַיִּקְחוּ לָהֶם נָשִׁים, מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר בָּחָרוּ. וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, לֹא-יָדוֹן רוּחִי בָאָדָם לְעֹלָם, בְּשַׁגַּם, הוּא בָשָׂר; וְהָיוּ יָמָיו, מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה. הַנְּפִלִים הָיוּ בָאָרֶץ, בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם, וְגַם אַחֲרֵי-כֵן אֲשֶׁר יָבֹאוּ בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים אֶל-בְּנוֹת הָאָדָם, וְיָלְדוּ לָהֶם: הֵמָּה הַגִּבֹּרִים אֲשֶׁר מֵעוֹלָם, אַנְשֵׁי הַשֵּׁם. "

"And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose. And the LORD said: 'My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for that he also is flesh; therefore shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.'The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown."

There are a few interpretations that try to reveal the identity of the sons of God and the Nephilim.
The first, and also the most common belief, is that the Sons of God were fallen angels who lived on earth and married human women, producing giant offspring called Nephilim.

The Nephilim were an antediluvian race which is referred to in the Bible as giants. They were reportedly the children born from the daughters of men, and the Sons of God.

The second belief refers to the Sons of God as descendants of Seth, who was Noah's son. They were men who sinned by marrying descendents of Cain. According to this interpretation, the Nephilim were heroic figures and not giants. Nephilim also simply means men of legends.

The third belief, which was advocated by Jewish sages such as Rashi and Nachmanides, is that the sons of God were simply kings and "Nephilim" were princes .This belief became the standard explanation of rabbinical Judaism.

The term "Sons of God" used in Genesis 6 is used only in 3 other places in the Bible, all of these can be found in The Book of Job: 1:6; 2:1; 38:7.
In the Book of Job the phrase Sons of God simply means angels.
