Kerry Washington Wed in Secret Jewish Ceremony?

Scandel Actress Kerry Washington allegedly married 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha in a private Idaho wedding according to a signed marriage licence unveiled by TMZ and E! online. The certificate also shows that the ceremony was led by Chisaraukwu Asomugha, the NFL's star's sister and reportedly a minister of Bet HaShem YHWH Worldwide Ministries in New Jersey.

Chisaraukwu Asomugha, who goes by Dr. Chisara Asomugha on multiple social networks as well as Nnamdi's Asomugha Foundation website, told the New Haven Independent in 2010 that she was ordained by Bet HaShem YHWH's ministry.

According to its website, "the vision of Bet HaShem YHWH is to propagate the name of the Heavenly Father, the truth of the Word, and to win all manner of mankind to Christ Yahshua, whereby to bring everlasting change into the earth."

The predominately African-American Bet HaShem YHWH church appears similar to the Messianic Jewish community. The church characterizes its self as Christian church rooted in "scriptures sound teaching, gifts of the Holy Spirit, and revelation knowledge." However it also practices some Jewish customs such as a weekly Shabbat service.

Among other customs, Jewish nuptuals typically take place under a canopy called a Chuppah and require the groom to wear some kind of ceremonial dress --be it a prayer shawl called the talit or a white robe called kittel -- according to JewishWeddingNetwork.com. A Messianic Jewish wedding may also feature these same customs.

It is unclear what was the nature of Washington's Wedding.

The licence show that ceremonly likely took place last week Monday in the presence of the Washington's parents. It is unclear how long Washington, 36, dated Nnamdi Asomugha, 31.

U2’s Bono an “Edgy” Christian; Warns Against PC Politeness

Peter Neill via Flickr

Rocker Bono, in an interview with Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, urged Christians to live a bold faith, noting that Jesus was not polite about acting out the gospel.

In an interview aired on FOTF’s website Bono said he identified with David of the Bible, not just because he was a musician but also because of his candor with God.

Bono admonished “It’d very important for Christians to be honest with God.”

Daly said in the interview that he believed the U2 musician lives an honest faith that appears to “orthodox folks” as “maybe too edgy at times.”

Bono responded by cautioning that Christians who prize “politeness” over the candor, he cautioned, may end up living a trivialized life. “You’ve gotta be very careful that grace and politeness do not merge into a banality of behavior, where we’re just nice, sort of ‘death by cupcake,’” he said.

While he praised politeness and manners, Bono said “Jesus didn’t have many manners.”

Instead he suggested that Jesus was also edgy when He told a man in Luke 9 to forsake burying his dead father to spread the gospel. “He could see right into that fellow’s heart. He knew he wasn’t coming and he was just, it was pretense.” FULL POST

James Gandolfini, the child of a devout Roman Catholic family in New Jersey who rose to prominance as modster Tony Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos, died Wednesday while vacationing in Italy according to several news reports.

News reports says the actor reportedly suffered a massive heart attack in the presence of his son.

His sudden death shocked his former cast mates. Lorraine Bracco, who played a psychiatrist on The Sopranos announced, "We lost a giant today. I am utterly heartbroken."

Michael Imperioli, who played Tony Soprano's protégé, noted "Jimmy treated us all like family with a generosity, loyalty and compassion that is rare in this world. ... Working with him was a pleasure and a privilege. I will be forever grateful having had a friend the likes of Jimmy."

Sopranos creator David Chase said in a statement, "He was a genius. Anyone who saw him even in the smallest of his performances knows that. He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time."

Though the burly Gandolifini often played gangsters in films such as Killing Them Softly and Get Shorty, he was reportedly shy.

He is survived by his second wife Deborah Lin, their daughter Liliana Ruth and son Michael from his previous marriage to Marcy Wudarski.

RGIII Sends Special Note to Gift-Giving Fan

Redskins fans sparked controversy when they purchased wedding gifts for Quarterback Robert Griffin III despite his million-dollar contract with the Washington, D.C. team. Griffin has responded in kind, sending a hand-written thank you note to at least one gifter.

An elated Keith Elgin, who sent the player a $15 welcome mat, posted a picture of his letter on Twitter. The note, signed by Griffen and his fiancée Rebecca Liddicoat, said "Dear Keith and Emily, Thank you for your kind gift. Even as nothing was expected from you, out of the love in your hearts you sent us one anyways, and made our wedding experience even more special. Thank you!"

The Quarterback, beloved for turning the Redskins around last season, is reportedly set to marry Liddicoat in July. The two reportedly met while attending the same Christian college, Baylor University.

Elgin and other fans found the Christian quarterback's registry and began sending him gifts. Griffen sparked the gift-giving controversy when he posted a picture of himself surrounded with boxes. He reported has a four-year, $21,119,098 contract with the Redskins.

Griffen clarified on Twitter that he did not encourage fans to buy gifts. The Virginia resident confirmed that he sent the gift of his own free will and thanked Griffen for his classy response.

The pair has a 9-year-old son, Roman, together. She and the ex are now focused on co-parenting, which she believes is just as stable.

"Now we are co-parenting beautifully … We had Thanksgiving together. In my mind, we will be a nuclear family forever."

'Hangover III' Star Highlights Homelessness on the Red Carpet

Photo: Tom Sorensen - CC

Zach Galifianakis, known for his comedic hijinks, made a mature entrance to the Hangover III movie premiere Monday. The 43-year-old actor entered the premiere with a homeless laundry worker on his arm according to reports from the Daily Mail and Time Magazine's Newsfeed.

Both publications state that Galifianakis, who was raised Greek Orthodox, befriended 87-year-old Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist in 1994. It is unclear whether Haist was homeless when Galifianakis initially met the local laundromat volunteer. However both publications report that Haist was living off of patrons' tips.

When Galifianakis found out that Haist was homeless two years ago, he found her an apartment and began taking her to his movie premieres such as The Campaign and The Hangover 2. Galifianakis pays for her rent and utilities. He also enlisted actress Renee Zellweger to furnish her apartment.

The actor's actions are extraordinary and Christ-like. Jesus said in Matthew 25:45 "He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’"

Galifianakis grew up in a working class Greek family. The comic told the ThatOtherPaper.com in 2007 that he was baptized in the Greek Orthodox church as a child but said he and his siblings “made a complete mockery of it.”

He also told the Austin paper that conservative groups have hijacked the teaching of Jesus Christ. He said of Jesus’ teachings “I think if Jesus were to come back he would more likely hang out with low-lifes and perhaps be in a really bad cover band, but do his good work.”

NBC has cancelled The New Normal a show about a homosexual couple in the process of adopting a baby, according to numerous news accounts. The show's last episode aired last Friday.

Before the show was canceled, conservative group One Million Moms protested it saying, "The program has constantly ridiculed anyone who believes differently than its makers do and even mocks conservative values."

The group called for members to urge sponsors not to financially support the show.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the controversial show, and others in NBC's Tuesday night line up, tanked because low viewership, not a lack of sponsors.

Justin Bartha, who played "David" one half of the LA gay couple The New Normal revolves around, told the Huffington Post, "It's kind of bittersweet... Well, I wouldn't call it bittersweet, but I have mixed feelings because I do think that I wasn't necessarily expecting it to get picked up, but I do think that we accomplished quite a bit in one season."

The show took on the Boy Scouts of America, politically incorrect Christian conservative character Nana Jane Forrester and California's marriage amendment in the final episode. Yes, that's right, the show ended with characters David and Bryan's wedding; a fictional Catholic priest married them on the beach. FULL POST

The 'Soul Surfer' Announces Her Engagement

Bethany Hamilton, the Christian surfer who inspired the movie Soul Surfer, announced that she is engaged to a youth minister named Adam. She made the announcement earlier this month on her Facebook page and website.

"On April 9, 2012, Adam proposed to me and I said, 'Yes!' I know Adam and I are right for each other and that God has us together for Him. Neither of us is perfect, but in my eyes Adam is just right and I’m thankful to have someone so perfectly perfect to share life with as one," she wrote.

The blog said that she and Adam, no last name given, met on the beach and became close friends.

"We started hanging out often. Just as friends – hiking, beach, tennis, hanging with friends – getting to know each other! The more time we spent together the more I liked Adam. He is genuine, kind, fun, adventurous, easy going, friendly to all, passionate for Christ and just a great guy over all! …and he liked me too!," Hamilton shared. FULL POST
