Is Katy Perry a 'Devil Child'?

Photo: Flickr/machechyp - Creative Commons

According The Sun, Keith Hudson, father to pop singer Katy Perry, refers to the "I Kissed a Girl" singer as a "Devil child" and asks congregations to pray for her.

The newspaper reported that Hudson, head of Keith Hudson Ministries with wife Mary, is saddened because the fans who follow his daughter are worshipping her and not God.

The publication quoted him as saying "They ask how can I preach if I produce [sic] a girl who sang about kissing another girl?

“I was at a concert of Katy’s where there were 20,000. I’m watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church.

“I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They’re loving and worshipping the wrong thing.”

On Facebook, the Hudsons shared that they been working in Christian ministry for over thirty years. Katy Perry was reportedly part of their ministry as a gospel singer until she chose to go mainstream.

The CP Blog staff did not find the sermon The Sun quoted. However in a seperate sermon posted on the Keith Hudson Ministries website, the Pentacostal minister taught parents of backslidden children not give up on them. FULL POST

Herman Cain and Bubba Watson Defend ESPN Analyst for Defense of Biblical Morality

After Washington Wizards basketball player Jason Collins announced he was gay in Sports Illustrated magazine, the developing news story took an unusual turn. ESPN anaylst Chris Broussard was asked his opinion:

"Now Chris, he mentioned in his article, Jason, that he's a Christian as well. So what's your take on that?

“Personally I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly premarital sex between heterosexuals,” Broussard said. ”If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be. I think that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian.”

Could NFL team owners and coaches fear that Tim Tebow would make a similar comment? Sports commentator Bruce Hooley tweeted about this possibility. FULL POST

Conan O'Brien, Obama Ribs History Channel's Bible, Jesus' Death and Pope at the Correspondent's Dinner

The History Channel's The Bible, Bill O'Reilly's upcoming book Killing Jesus, and the Pope were subjects to jokes during Sunday night's White House Correspondent Dinner

Several cable channels including MSNBC, CNN, and A&E were respresented at the light-hearted dinner specially held for the Media. The president, however, suggested that the History Channel skipped the dinner due to a controversial protrayal in The Bible.

"The History Channel is not here. I guess they were embarrassed about the whole Obama-is-a-devil thing... Of course, that never kept Fox News from showing up. They thought that comparison was not fair ... to Satan," Barack Obama said in jest.

The joke referred the controversy surrounding Moroccan actor Mehdi Ouazzani's protrayal of Satan. Many believed that Quazzani's Satan bore a striking resemblance to Obama. The Bible Co-Creator and Mary Actress Roma Downing told FOX News' Sean Hannity in March that her "heart sank" when she awoke to the news that everyone was talking about Satan the Monday after Jesus made his first appearance on screen.

Emcee Conan O"Brien also mocked conservative news channel joking FOX News Host Bill O'Reilly's book would be the first to blame Jesus' death on Obamacare. He also ribbed Obama's record of job creation. FULL POST

Legally Blonde/ Water for Elephants Actress Reese Witherspoon apologized for her drunken display on Friday. E! online reported that Witherspoon and hubby Jim Toth were jailed Friday morning after the two were stopped for driving while intoxicated.

Toth was at the wheel and was reportedly pulled over after swerving into on-coming traffic on an Atlanta roadway. Witherson reportedly became belligerent and asked the officer if he knew who she was.

In excerpts of a report featured on E! online the officer stated, "Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?' I answered, 'No, I don't need to know your name.' I then added, 'Right now.' Mrs. Witherspoon stated, 'You're about to find out who I am.'"

Witherspoon apologized for her behavior Monday. "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," the actress said in a statement to media.

Other actresses such as Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan have also had troubles with driving under the influence. However few may have expected Hollywood's good girl to be caught up in similar problems.

Witherspoon was raised in the Episcopal church according to a Reader Digest interview. She was also spotted attending her local church after being injuried in a car accident 2011.

That same year Witherspoon told girls watching the MTV Movie Awards that good girls can be successful in Hollywood. FULL POST

Tom Brady Prays for Boston, Bombing Victims

Jeffrey Beall

In the wake of the Monday terrorist attacks on the Boston Marathon, New English Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady is praying for town's recovery.

Brady posted on Twitter "Praying for my city of Boston. Senseless killings need to stop." His wife model Gisele Caroline Bündchen followed with a prayer of her own: "My love and prayers to everyone in Boston."

Brady and family weren't the only people in Patriots franchise to offer condolences to the victims.

Former Pats player Joe Andruzzi was at the finish line Monday when the bombs went off and helped carry a victim to the medical tent.

Andruzzi later released a statement deflecting the attention:

"While I appreciate the interest in hearing our perspective on today's horrific events, the spotlight should remain firmly on the countless individuals -- first responders, medics, EMTs, runners who crossed the finish line and kept on running straight to give blood, and the countless civilians who did whatever they could to save lives. They were the true heroes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy."

He also tweeted: "Jen and I are safe. & Our thoughts & prayers are with all the victims and their families impacted at today's Boston Marathon. TY to all our emergency personnel."

Former Volleyball pro: I'm Submissive to My Husband

Reece on the Today Show

Gabrielle Reece, a former volleyball pro and model, shocked many when she revealed in her new book My Foot is Too Big For the Glass Slipper that she chooses to play a submissive role in her marriage to pro surfer Laird Hamilton.

Though she is a fierce athlete in the gym, Reese wrote that at home, "To be truly feminine means being soft, receptive and -look out here it comes- submissive."

She willingly acknowledged on the Today Show that being submissive to her husband is about serving him. "I think the idea of living with a partner is how can I make their life better. So if he's the man and I'm the woman than yes, then that's the dynamic. I'm willing and I choose to serve my family and my husband."

She also asserted that submission is a kind of service that comes from a place of strength and not weakness.

In an interview at their Hawaii home, Reese and Hamilton revealed that they "ran into a wall" five years after the wedding as Reese tried to deal with her husband's "moodiness." Reese even filed for divorce from Hamilton. However they chose to work on their marriage rather than walk away and now Hamilton says they are blessed.

"It's a blessing for us that we've gone through a bunch of different things in our marriage," he shared. FULL POST

Actress, Pastors and Pro-lifers Bear Witness to Gosnell Trial in lieu of the Media

Screen shot of a Gosnell image being circulated on Twitter

Frustrated by major news outlets’ refusal to cover the criminal trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, pro-lifers have taken to Twitter to question the media and expose the murderous details from the case.

Gosnell, who was arrested and charged with murdering seven newborn babies and one abortion patient, has been on trial since mid-March. However bloggers like those of Pathoes’ Get Religion noted that mainstream media are not covering the court proceedings.

“So our abortion-drenched media would certainly want to cover what is arguably the country’s most horrific serial murder trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, right? Well, far from the front-page, top of the news, daily update coverage you rightfully would expect, it’s been downplayed. Majorly downplayed,” said a GetReligion blogger identified as Mollie.

Groups Operation Rescue, Priests for Life, Stand True and AbortionWik have organized a “Tweetfest” Friday noon to midnight to talk about the Kermit Gosnell trial and challenge the media. As of 2 p.m. EST the Gosnell hashtag has become a U.S. top trending topic.

"Everybody Loves Raymond" actress and public conservative Patricia Heaton playfully compared the trial's lack of media coverage to the explosion of coverage surrounding Manti Te'o’s girlfriend. She tweeted, “Media treats footballer’s imaginary girlfriend as real, treats murdered babies in Philly abortion clinic as imaginary.”

Pro-Life Twitter user Chandler Epp tweeted, “Had Kermit Gosnell kill dogs, [the media] would be giving it wall-to-wall coverage.”

Many tweeters are also directly challenging news outlets like the New York Times and Reuters about what is being called the “Gosnell Blackout.”
