Marco Rubio Enraged by Beyonce, Jay-Z Cuba Trip

Florida Republican Marco Rubio demanded the Obama Administration explain why musical pair Beyonce Knowles and Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter were give licenses to visit Cuba, the communist tropical isle with which the United States has cut ties.

“U.S. law clearly bans tourism to Cuba by American citizens because it provides money to a cruel, repressive and murderous regime." Rubio said in a statement released Monday.

White House Secretary Jay Carney said the U.S. Treasury Department permitted the celebrity couple to travel to the country. They are reportedly celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary there. However the trip was billed as a cultural exchange to fit the cultural and academic allowances which are the only exceptions to the Cuba tourism ban.

Rubio said the star's cultural trip is a farce and an abuse of power. "Since their inception, the Obama Administration’s ‘people to people’ cultural exchange programs have been abused by tourists who have no interest in the Cuban people’s freedom and either don’t realize or don’t care that they’re essentially funding the regime’s systematic trampling of people’s human rights," he said. Roger Ebert, Movie Critic and Humanist Catholic, Died at Age 70

Omar Moore

Pulitzer Prize winning film critic Roger Ebert died amid plans to "slow down" and review "only the movies I want to review." Two days before his death, Ebert revealed in his Chicago Sun-Times blog "The 'painful fracture' that made it difficult for me to walk has recently been revealed to be a cancer."

Ebert had battled cancer since 2002 when he was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. He had a number of surgeries that eventually removed a portion of his jaw and left him unable to speak, eat or drink. He also suffered a number injuries and complications.

Ebert still found a way to resume writing 5-6 movie reviews a week. He also blogged profusely about a number of topics including religion and God. He noted his enrollment in a Catholic school run by nuns and teachers he described as "New Deal Democrats" that influenced his religious practice.

Ebert said of his faith, "I consider myself Catholic, lock, stock and barrel, with this technical loophole: I cannot believe in God." Despite his Catholic upbringing, Ebert said he has long struggled with God's existance.

In a April 2009 blog, Ebert noted that though his wife's faith was strong, he has found that over time "the reality of God was no longer present in my mind." FULL POST

Religious TV Channel GMC Changes its Name

Each year broadcast and cable television networks hold special presentations in New York City to attract advertisers. These events, called upfronts, attract billlions of dollars in advertising.

At yesterday's upfront for GMC, the network's vice chairman Brad Siegel announced the channel will change its name to UP in June, reported Broadcasting and Cable. This might be a move to differentiate the network from GMC Trucks. The channel has been promoting itself with the motto "uplifting entertainment."

Unlike most religious networks GMC's financial model involves advertising rather than beg-a-thons and preachers buying most of the airtime.

GMC also announced at its upfront plans to feature an original reality TV series, movies and stage plays.

GMC's name was originally Gospel Music Channel but the nework first changed its name in 2010. Gospel Pundit  noted the change at that time, "Word has it that Gospel Music Channel has changed its name to the hip and trendy name 'gmc' to better represent its family-friendly (not gospel music-exclusive) content."

"God Ain't No Punk" but What is Omarosa? Fired, Says Trump

The woman who proclaimed "God ain't no Punk" was eliminated Sunday from the all-star season of Celebrity Apprentice.

Rev. Omarosa Manigault became the lastest person to be ousted from Donald Trump's reality show after she and Dennis Rodman raised the least amount of money during an art deal challenge.

"I adore you. We've had tremendous success together. You helped make The Apprentice. You helped to make me a star. But Omarosa, you're fired," Trump announced.

Manigault, once dubbed one of TV Guide's nastiest villains, did not disappoint in her third appearance on the show. She rolled on rocker Bret Michaels after he brought her onto his team, pushed the soft-voiced La Toya Jackson to the edge, and attempted to throw Lil' John under the bus.

She also famously defended her fiendish behavior with the line "The Bible says 'Vengence is mine' God ain't no punk."

The rest of the verse in Romans 12:19 reads, "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' says the Lord " FULL POST

Lecrae Questions Logic Behind Marriage Equality

Christian Rapper Lecrae took to Facebook to discuss the topic dominating the U.S. Supreme Court this week, gay marriage.

The Texas native questioned how the marriage "equality" argument could affect society.

"Religion aside. What are we basing equality on? The right to be with whoever you love? What if I love my sister? A 13 year old? An animal? Does the basis for equality still work? I'm Not spewing hate, I'm asking honestly about consistency? Again I'm leaving religion out of this," Lecrae challenged.

The comment got over 6,600 "Likes."

Many commenters thanked Lecrae for being brave enough to ask such a question. Facebook user Jen Tafoya praised the question saying "Exactly Lecrae, it's only a matter of time!!!"

Yet many posted comments disagreeing with the rapper's inquiry.

Laura Mincke Morris replied, "No because those would be innocent children, animals, whom can not make the decision for themselves. We're talking about grown adults. It's disheartening that my fellow Christians chose to inact their 'righteousness' when it comes to guns and gays but not against child abuse, animal abuse, any instance in which innocent creatures without a voice depend on us as a society to protect them. Shame on you." FULL POST

(Flickr/ Nikk_LA)

While sports analysts lament over Harvard's bracket-busting win over the favored New Mexico in NCAA tournament, NBA star Jeremy Lin is telling critics I told you so.

The Harvard alum forcasted that the Ivy Leauge school would advance. He tweeted Thursday night, "Getting ready to watch HARVARD beat new mexico on TNT!! #gocrimson."

Jeremy really rubbed it in after the Crimson pulled off a 68-62 upset against the Lobos. "YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!! HARVARD winssss!!! hahahahhah i told you.... #threepointgoggles #bracketbusters "

He also tweeted a picture of himself wearing a Harvard t-shirt.

The win means a huge set back for bracket affictionados like the New York Times statistician Nate Silver who reportedly predicted that New Mexico would go further in the NCAA tournament.

Harvard the Next Basketball Powerhouse?

One win does not a NCAA champion make. Yet, Thursday win harkens back to a time when the New York Knicks and the entire NBA overlooked a certian Harvard player. When he was finally put in the game, Lin-sanity insued!

Celebs Sound Off on the Pope

Yesterday Pope Francis' appointment was greeted with cheers from thousands of adoring Catholics gathered at the Vatican. Hollywood's glitterati also weighed on the historical event, trading jokes and bards on Twitter according to MSN's Wonder Wall.

Self-proclaimed Catholic Mario Lopez reveled in the fact he and former Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio share the same name.

"'Mario!' That's a sign. Can't go wrong with a name like that... #Catholic," he tweeted.

MTV reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi also tweeted her ... um ... admiration for the new pope.

"Yay for Pope Bergoglio!! He's adorable," she shared.

Comedian and gay rights advocate Kathy Griffin hinted that she also thinks the pope is cute. She tweeted, "I haven't been paying that much attention to my old religion lately. Is this guy single?"

Andy Richter, co-host of the Conan O'Brian show, commented on the recent revelation that Pope Francis has only one lung.

"76 yrs old and only one lung? It's so obvious Francis is just a placeholder until Trebek's Jeopardy contract is up."

Other celebs used humor to touch on some of the Catholic Church's problem areas: its rumored relationship with the Mafia, declining membership in some countries and its continued resistance to ordaining women.

Actor David Arquette tweeted, "Don't call the new pope Francis - his name is Frank - If you call him Francis he's gonna kill you."

90210 Star Trevor Donovan joked "If the new #Pope sees his shadow there will be 2000 more years of Catholicism, if he doesn't Armageddon is imminent." FULL POST

Preachers' Daughters Act Out for New Lifetime DocuSeries

Reality TV's fascination with church has now moved beyond pastors' wives and onto their children with Lifetime Network's new docuseries Preachers' Daughters. The show premieres next week. It follows three families, the Colemans, Koloffs and Perrys, as they struggle to keep their daughters away from premarital sex.

The show revels in the girls' interest in the opposite sex.

Taylor Coleman and Olivia Perry are the show's most extreme examples.

In the Lifetime trailers, Taylor, 18, is shown hiding revealing outfits under her clothes, partying with friends and kissing an older male. She hates her father City of Refuge Pentecostal Church Pastor Ken Coleman's protective attitude and is desperate to be "free." Taylor revealed in one of the previews that she has an alter ego that seeks to become a porn star.

Olivia Perry, daughter of Everyday Church Pastor Mark Perry, is an 18-year-old teen mom who is unsure of who is the father of her child. Mark Perry handled the matter with prayer.

Kolby Koloff's challenges seem to be the milder of the three.

The 16-year-old simply asked for her parents' blessing to begin dating. Kolby's mother Victoria Koloff, a director of two pregnancy centers, and father Victoria Koloff, a pro wrestler turned evangelist, both struggled with their daughter's request. FULL POST
