An introspective: humility and fear of the Lord

Contradictory, oxymoronic, counterintuitive. These are all words that carry connotations of the same principle...something seems out of whack.

The Holy Spirit has been nudging me for awhile now to examine two Biblical concepts, fear of God and humility. And any possible connections therein. I figure I'll pay attention during the nudging phase and not wait until the Spirit hits me upside my head with His motivating 2"x4". For a change.

One of my biggest desires is for God to use me in some way to reach people. Whether to help edify His Church or to reach the unsaved. The adjunct to that is, of course, the disheartening angst that He never will.

THERE ARE NO SMALL ROLES...

It is really, 100% absolutely true that size doesn't matter in God's Kingdom. To God it doesn't matter if one has shared His Word with over 2,000,000,000 as is estimated for Rev. Billy Graham or Fred talking to three people sitting on a park bench. The point is sharing His Word with the world. Ten thousand angels will still rejoice for that single person who comes to Christ. That's what my mind knows. That's what my soul knows. That's what my flesh...can sometimes have a problem with. FULL POST

Being Fully Committed to Jesus

What does it mean to commit one's life to the Christ Jesus? That can be a tricky, and very touchy, subject.

KEEP THE GOAL IN MIND

First and foremost, we must remember the ultimate goal and it has nothing to do with this life. It is about being reunited with God when He finally returns to establish His new Kingdom. What we do in this life, or fail to do, will help bring us into God's Presence in our Eternal Life [John 3:16, 18; Philippians 3:14; Romans 2:6-8]

As a supplement to this idea one has to keep firmly in mind that Heaven and Hell are both real places. The Bible is very clear on this point [Revelation 21:8; Matthew 25:46] and in the very explicit words of Jesus:

Matthew 10:28 New King James Version (NKJV)And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

And if one does not fully believe the Bible is 100% true from Genesis 1:1 all the way through to the last word of the Book of Revelation, guess what? That person is not fully committed to Christ.

IT IS NOT THE EASY ROAD FULL POST

Wait Upon the Lord

What does it mean to "wait upon the Lord?" We are told to "be still" and "know that I am [He is] God," [Psalm 46:10 NKJV] and to "Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for [H]im to act" [Psalm 37:7 NLT]. But what does all that really mean?

I'VE GOT PLACES TO GO...

Many times when we pray to God we add in a silent "and if You would take care of that by next Wednesday that'd be great!" As "next Wednesday" approaches we keep prodding God along. When it becomes next Thursday we start to panic; by next Saturday we become convinced God is not working on the issue at hand and try to figure out ways to accomplish our desire in our own way.

This is probably one of the biggest mistakes we can make in our lives. We ask God to handle some problem or fill some need, then in an act of extreme hubris we snatch it back from His hands. Once we give it to God our job becomes to wait, watch and listen for when God gives you the signal to act. We MUST remember our thoughts and ways are far, far beneath our Lord's [Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV] FULL POST

GOD TRUMPS THEM ALL

The Presidential primary season is in full swing, in fact as I write this tomorrow is "Super Tuesday" and the debate over who should be the GOP candidate is certainly a hot topic. In fact it is downright vitriolic, among the candidates, between the candidates and the pundits, between the pundits and those who follow them on Social Media and among the individuals on Social Media. This will be the first U.S. Presidential election in history that is being fought on Facebook and Twitter where anybody and everybody can put in his/her 2¢ in. I don't include the 2012 election of Obama because we had an incumbent and because even in that four short year period we have seen an exponential growth in this medium and its influence. And it has made me wonder "what's a Christian to do?"

We must first understand that the Democratic-Republic form of Government we enjoy in the United States was not even a germ of a kernel of a nugget of an idea even 300 years ago much less in Biblical times. So while the Bible does not say "thou shalt vote Republican/Democrat" that does not mean God wants us to ignore current events around us. We just have to dig deeper into God's word, which cannot be a bad thing. For if we are ignorant of events around us how can we fulfill God's instructions to pray for our leaders and our nation? The Nevada Caucuses The Problem Of Donald Trump

Well, the Nevada Caucuses are over and the results are in and The Donald won with more than 45% of the votes cast. Love him or hate him, unless something drastic happens (perhaps a brokered deal that brings in someone who isn't even running?) Donald Trump will be the GOP Candidate for President of the United States of America in the November General Election. That means the next POTUS will almost assuredly be either Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. God help us all. If we should be asking Him at all. But that's another discussion.

Fox News puts up on their website the results of each Primary with demographic breakdowns. The Nevada page can be found at www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2016/primary-caucus-results/nevada?intcmp=hpbt1#exit-polls

Being a stats sort of guy I like looking things like this over to maybe understand a little bit of the why behind the what. Here are some highlights, my blah, blah, blah continues after.

Q: When did you finally decide whom to support in today's caucus?

49% said more than 1 month ago
--Of that 59% voted Trump. Therefore, 28% overall decided to vote Trump long ago and have not changed their minds. FULL POST

THE TIME IS NOW

Whether we want to admit it or not, there is little doubt we have entered God's final phase for His Earth. Call it the End Times, the End of Days or the Latter Days, the clock has started winding down. Stop and look around, an honest examination will show that the events of the day are aligning with Scripture like never before. Whether one looks at examples [this is not a comprehensive list by any stretch of the imagination] natural phenomenon like the Solar activity, the increased number and strength of earthquakes or the fairly sudden onslaught of "Superstorms" like Sandy; or the actions of mankind like the wars raging around the world, or society fracturing along lines of judgement and morality [LGBT vs straight, black vs white, Islam vs Christianity/Judaism, socialists vs conservatives, etc., etc.] events are lining up with Scriptural End Times Prophecy like never before. {Let me insert my regular caveat here, while the End Times clock is ticking, neither myself nor any other being in the Universe but the Father knows the appointed time [Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32]. It could be tomorrow, a decade from now or 477 years from next Thursday.} So what's a human to do? Glad you asked.... FULL POST

Muslim Refugee Debate

As President Obama contemplates allowing tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, Muslim "refugees" to flood our country a debate has sprung up among Christians as to whether or not we should oppose this influx of people. My position was a resounding, unequivocal "NO!" Then I started seeing people I love and respect using Jesus and His Commandments as a foundation for the position that we should welcome them with open arms to help ease their suffering. Two of my cousins, Tony and Ryan, in particular got me to thinking (bad idea guys!!) and I paused saying to myself, "self, part of growing is to reassess your positions once in a while." And so, here we are. Let me layout part of my thinking on the subject:

First, one must understand that Islam is a hybrid religion-government ideology which is incompatible with both Christianity and the Constitution of the United States. This does NOT mean so called "radical" Islam, it is just plain old Islam based on their sacred texts the Qur'an and the Hadith. Evolving from these we have what is known as Sharia Law. Some of the ideals of Islam that are anathema to Christianity and the Constitution: FULL POST

God Hates America

Wait! What??? That's right, that's my story and I'm sticking with it. So many people hear about God's Love for mankind, it's in the Christian music we listen to and it's preached from the pulpit and it's proclaimed from the guys on TV who are self-proclaimed ministers of God's Word, so who am I to say differently? For those who preach a false Gospel or only half of the Word, especially those trumpeting from our TVs I am the most dangerous kind of Christian. One who actually reads his Bible on a daily basis. God's love is longsuffering and ever-forgiving but still I say God hates America. The principle behind that idea is right there in the Bible if you care to look for yourself, but here are a couple of examples:

Psalm 7:11-12 New King James Version (NKJV)

11 God is a just judge,
And God is angry with the wicked every day.
12 If he does not turn back,
He will sharpen His sword;
He bends His bow and makes it ready. FULL POST

America Over The Edge?

God left humanity a letter and it is called the Bible. In it He told us how and why He created man, He warned the first two humans to avoid the fruit of one tree, one tree in all of the Garden, and He tells us how Eve was deceived by Satan and ate of that fruit. God gave us free will, maybe that was a bad idea, but Eve chose to listen to the Deceiver and God had to develop a plan to allow man to redeem himself. That plan may have spanned millennia, to we humans an extraordinarily long time, for God not so for He is Eternal and time means nothing to Him. God also told us in that letter that eventually He will Judge the world and all who live in it. Many call it The End Times, some may call it Those Days and even others may call it The End Of Days. But whatever the name we put on it, I believe we are the generation living it first hand. FULL POST

Christians Out Of Focus

Many Christians today seem like they have lost the idea of keeping Heaven in sight, driven in no small part by Preachers whose claim to fame (and influence) is a book or TV show that caught on and made them "theologians." Another piece of that puzzle is the non Scriptural doctrines of the various Churches people attend. We have become a society, by and large, that wants to be spoon-fed our "knowledge" in a 30 second sound bite or a 140 character tweet. A large majority of our nation does not care to research or, seemingly, think for themselves. And this has led to the focus of many Christians and Christian institutions changing from "Life and Death" to "life and death." The capitalized version being what we will face when we are standing before God and giving an accounting of our lives, the other regarding the world we happen to occupy in the here and now.

The Deceiver is very active in the United States right now and he has fooled many Christians into focusing on this world and not the next. Satan is a wily old creature and couches his lies in terms that seem kind and loving and in fact he uses our very cultural laziness against us. He also uses peoples limited knowledge of the Bible as a weapon. He knows that people would rather watch TV or sit in a pew and have someone else tell them what the Bible means or says. A 2012 story on the "Christianity Today" website indicates only 19% of all Christians read the Bible on a daily basis. But is that the life God wants His people to follow? FULL POST
