Christians Out Of Focus

text size A A A

Many Christians today seem like they have lost the idea of keeping Heaven in sight, driven in no small part by Preachers whose claim to fame (and influence) is a book or TV show that caught on and made them "theologians." Another piece of that puzzle is the non Scriptural doctrines of the various Churches people attend. We have become a society, by and large, that wants to be spoon-fed our "knowledge" in a 30 second sound bite or a 140 character tweet. A large majority of our nation does not care to research or, seemingly, think for themselves. And this has led to the focus of many Christians and Christian institutions changing from "Life and Death" to "life and death." The capitalized version being what we will face when we are standing before God and giving an accounting of our lives, the other regarding the world we happen to occupy in the here and now.

The Deceiver is very active in the United States right now and he has fooled many Christians into focusing on this world and not the next. Satan is a wily old creature and couches his lies in terms that seem kind and loving and in fact he uses our very cultural laziness against us. He also uses peoples limited knowledge of the Bible as a weapon. He knows that people would rather watch TV or sit in a pew and have someone else tell them what the Bible means or says. A 2012 story on the "Christianity Today" website indicates only 19% of all Christians read the Bible on a daily basis. But is that the life God wants His people to follow?

Luke 4:4 New King James Version (NKJV)

4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

Psalm 119:10-11 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

10 I seek you with all my heart;
don’t let me stray from your mitzvot.
11 I treasure your word in my heart,
so that I won’t sin against you.

I think not! God wants you to know His Word, and the stronger your knowledge the better. Reread those passages and see just how important God's Word should be to us. But almost 80% of Christians, not the general public mind you, but self professed Christians do NOT read the Bible daily. So, when an issue comes up like the relationship between two people caught up in the sin of homosexuality those people cannot know what God has to say about it. Rather, they see what's trending on Twitter® and read whatever some "expert" has to say. An expert who is quite likely one of the Trickster's minions (and not the funny little yellow guys). Maybe there's a discussion about Islam and their false god Allah. There are those who preach Chrislam, trying to find a "common ground" between Christianity and Islam and ignoring the bulk of the Islamic holy texts the Qur'an and the Hadith which are anathema to God and Christianity. Even the Pope and the President of the United States downplay the unrighteousness of Islam and its adherents. So what happens? People start to feel good because they KNOW God is OK with it because Pope Francis and Pastor Joel and Pastor Rick say it's the right thing to do. But all that is happening is people are getting herded onto the wide road that leads to destruction. [Matthew 7:13]  But beyond even all the verses that warn about False Teachers and Doctrines here in the End Times [Acts 20:29, Galatians 4:17, 1 Timothy 4:1-2, 2 Peter 2:1-3, and more] the Apostle Paul made what I view as a very strong warning:

Galatians 1:6-9 New Living Translation (NLT)

There Is Only One Good News
6 I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News 7 but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ.8 Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you. 9 I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed.

If even an ANGEL (it would have to be one of the Fallen Angels) tells us something other than what is written in what we now know as the Bible we should pay no attention to it. And those guys on TV with their perfect teeth and sharp suits may look brilliant and dazzling but they certainly are NOT on the same strata as an Angel. Fallen or not. So how do we protect ourselves? How do we not get distracted and end up putting our focus on the lies of this world instead of Eternity? Learn the Word for ourselves, read it every day and it will protect us from the Lake of Fire and bring us into eternal life with the Father.

Ephesians 6:16 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

16 Always carry the shield of trust, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the Evil One.
