The Happy Fools and the Unhappy Wise

text size A A A

This recent Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare was a victory for the leviathan of socialist government. Consequently, there are two groups who are happy about this state of affairs and one group that is not happy about it. The first happy group are those who do not know what they are getting or what they are losing. The second happy group are those who do know what they are getting. The third group, which is unhappy, know both what they are getting and what they are losing.

As stated earlier, the first group are happy but they do not know what they are getting or what they are losing. Many in this group are intelligent, hard working people who just want a better life. Some of them are God fearing and they believe that with this court ruling that their goals of a better life are being realized. What they do not know is that everywhere it is tried, a socialist health care system results in more misery because of rationing. Obamacare, if actualized, will prove the old adage, that “If you want it bad, you will get it, bad.” Many who praise president Obama’s healthcare bill today, will live long enough to curse his name. In spite of the fact that many of the people in favor of socialized medicine are intelligent and educated, they are also quite naïve. They have never learned the lesson that there is no free lunch. Instead, they will find that the cost of Obamacare is a price that they are not willing to pay. Unfortunately, by the time that they realize it, it will be too late.

The deluded people in the first group did not realize that they are about to lose the best health care system in the world. In its place, they will receive a system under which 50% of those who get cancer will never see an oncologist (like in Great Britain). In some cases, they will receive minor surgery without anesthesia. MRIs and other helpful diagnostic tools will become far too expensive. They will find that doctors are harder to find because medicine is no longer a profitable profession (is not profit an evil thing?). They will also be served by an endless number of bureaucrats who will make those employees at DMV look like overachievers. Once this new system is in place, they will long for the good old days of a free market medical insurance system that was made more complicated because of government regulation. Instead of the free market medical system that they had, they will get a grossly expensive government nightmare that will cripple our economy and well-being. The buyers should have been wary, but they never bothered to find out what many already know in other countries with socialized medicine.

The second group of happy people are the politicians and judges (like John Roberts) who know what they are getting. They are getting one step closer to the socialist society that they have desired for so long. They are the ones responsible for foisting this healthcare nightmare upon the yokels who put them in office. These people are the leftist members of the ruling class, who are exempt from using the medical system that they have forced upon “the rabble.” Yes, the ruling class will have a healthcare system that is dramatically better than what you and I will ever see again. Their every need will be taken care of with the best of technology while the rest will suffer. On the other hand, the ruling class should receive better treatment because they are better people, with more intelligence, education and a higher sense of morality than the common man. Like Plato’s philosopher kings, they see what is good and right and it is their job to force it upon everyone else because the common man is too stupid to see the truth. Like Plato, they want to break down the family, and educate the children so that they will live to serve the state. They desire to make homosexuality, abortion, and euthanasia normal because these things are right. Of course, to achieve their dream of an all powerful state, they will have to take guns away from the citizens because they might revolt against the social engineering that is required for this “brave, new world.” The common man is too much like a child, so Plato’s guardians will have to be just like a “big brother” who will help to move them in the right direction. The ruling class is happy, because they are now one step closer to their dream of a utopian society, where everyone is equal. Of course, those in the ruling class are more equal than the ones that they are ruling.

Now it is time to look at those malcontents who know what they are losing and know what they are getting. Many in this group make no claims to being an economist, but they know that free market economies make everyone better off. They know that free markets respect the biblical concept of property rights (Thou shalt not steal implies property rights). They know that government regulation reduces market efficiencies. They know that socialism does not ever work. They also know that they are losing more and more of their freedom. This includes their freedom of religion. The U.S. government will now force even religious institutions to pay for contraceptives, abortions and euthanasia, thus, forcing them to violate their consciences. These unhappy people understand that we will get more government, less freedom and less healthcare. These wise, but unhappy people know that we are headed towards an atheistic, immoral, totalitarian state.

While the ruling class might say that justice and righteousness has been served, you and I know better. It is to such a ruling class that Jeremiah wrote (8:8-9)“How can you say that we are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? But behold, the lying pen of scribes has made it into a lie. The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom is in them?” Despite their claims to wisdom, the ruling class are actually like Agur, son of Jakeh, in Proverbs 30 who said “Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man. I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.” The ones who are happy about the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare are fools. If we are to have true justice and righteousness in our country, we need to replace many of our current leaders with those who know the word of God and the God of that word.
