Chosen To Be Holy (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 10)

text size A A A

1 Peter 1:15-16 (NLT)
But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

Who is sufficient enough or perfect enough to be holy in everything? No one is. Neither you or I are capable of complete holiness in all things. We can be holy only by the power of God working in our lives.

God commands us to be holy and offers us Himself as the perfect example. While we cannot attempt holiness on our own, it is God’s grace in calling us as sinners to get engaged to holiness. We cannot be holy within ourselves, only by divine grace. This is why God calls us out of sin, self-righteousness, and self-conceit to enter the blessings of promise given to those who strive to follow God in holy living.

Holiness is not a stance, a ritual, or a recitation. It is not loud or boisterous. It is a manner in which we carry ourselves that represents the light and love, truth and tranquility of Christ within. It is quite possible to look holy and not be holy. True holiness comes from a deep abiding faith in God and a desire to do His will. Though we will never equal God, we can certainly strive to imitate Him — to think as He things and to will as He wills.

“The true Christian ideal is not to be happy but to be holy.”
— A.W. Tozer
