God IS Love (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 20)

text size A A A

1 John 4:16 (NLT)
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

“God is love.” This is a powerful statement of comfort. An affirmation of certainty and sureness. It gives us a firm conviction and confidence that in a cruel and cold world, true love flows from Someone who is perfect and all-knowing not because He is a part of the idea of love, but because He IS love.

Every human being needs to be loved. It is intrinsic to a high quality life that we belong to someone and that we know someone accepts us and cares for us unconditionally. When we lack love in our lives, we resort to dangerous behaviors and develop negative attitudes towards ourselves and others. We not only need to know that somebody loves us, but that we are able to love someone else as well. When we doubt love, we doubt our own worth.

Love is the acid test of commitment, faithfulness, and trust. God loves us no matter what we do and no matter who we are because He can do nothing less. Love is not just a part of His character; it is His character. It is inherent and essential to who He is. While no attribute is more important than another, love is the powerful force by which God rules over and reigns in the world. Experiencing the love of God is one of the greatest feelings you will ever have.

It is to our benefit that we know and believe God’s love for us. He extends His love to us even when we don’t deserve it. Think of Jesus dying on the cross. We will never be able to grasp it entirely because human understanding will only touch the first step of the journey of billions of miles on which God loves each step of the way. But we find our security and ourselves in Him. He loves sacrificially, unconditionally, unselfishly, and eternally.

Get secure in God’s love. Allow yourself to be loved by God. If you’ve never experience love from another human being, let God give you that wonderful experience. God is concerned about you. God is looking out for you. When we are secure in the deep love of God, we can reach out to others in love that is sacrificial, unconditional, and unselfish. To live in love, we must live in God and allow God to live in us.

“Jesus loves me. This I know; for the Bible tells me so.” This isn’t just a song. It’s a statement of truth. Yes, God loves you because He is love. This is a reminder to trust and believe.

“God's love for us is uncoerced and so freely given that it does not demand a response. But so freely is it given that it creates freedom in the recipient, so that our response is not one of obligation or duty, nor the returning of a favor, but uncoerced love.”
