I Am Here (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 51)

John 6:20 (NLT)
But he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here!”

Over and over again throughout Scripture, we are challenged to overcome fear and embrace faith. It has been said that three hundred and sixty-five times, God urges us to not be afraid and to trust His presence. While the enemy of our souls seeks to crush our spirits with fear and worry, God seeks to comfort us with His power and courage.

Here we see the disciples, many of whom are experienced sailors, crouching in fear and worry. They are in the middle of a boisterous and terrible storm. They feel as though there is nowhere to go but down. Their first thought may have been to head to shore, but the shore for them was too far out. Where was Jesus when they needed Him?

Then, out of nowhere, they see Jesus walking on the water towards them. It wasn’t Jesus’ goal to scare them or make them afraid. But He wanted them to elevate their faith, increase their trust in Him. In order to prove His power in their lives, they had to be put in a situation that would allow them to see the distinct difference.

We all experience storms in life. If you have, then you know what it feels like. If you haven’t, then expect some to come your way in the future. It may seem impossible to experience peace in the middle of the storms of life. But peace is not an idea or a concept; it is a distinct awareness that God is always here. No matter what you’re going through, let your faith and trust in God run wild. Instead of resorting to fear when you’re facing trouble, believe that something good is going to come out of your storm. God is with you. He is always closer than we feel He is.

“Peace is not the subtraction of problems from life; peace is the addition of power to meet those problems.”
