Refuse to Worry (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 38)

text size A A A

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Most of what we think about, we worry about. Much of the stress we encounter in life does not come from being overworked, overwhelmed, or overloaded, but from being over-worried. God tells us very simply not to worry. Instead, He commands us to pray and praise.

We should let go of worry because it only makes the problem or the perceived problem worse. The more we think about a problem, the bigger and bigger it gets. On top of that, we more energy we expend in worry, the less energy we have to expend in prayer. Some problems we encounter are under our power to solve. We should solve them. The problems that are above our heads, we should turn them over to God in prayer.

We should also let go of worry because it doesn’t change anything. Talk to anyone who has ever worried about a problem and they will tell you they didn’t find the solution by worrying. Worry changes nothing. Worry fixes nothing. It only messes up your life and keeps you preoccupied with things you cannot change.

God knows everything about you and He wants you to be free in every way. He has all the time and energy in the world to solve your problems, meet your needs, and satisfy your desires. God takes a personal interest in you and has promised to answer your prayers “according to His riches in glory.” Another thing about this: God enjoys helping His children. Whatever it is, give it God and let Him work it out.

“The first step in stress management is to refuse to worry about anything. Why? Because it’s unreasonable, unnatural, unhelpful, and unnecessary.”
— Rick Warren
