What We Lack in Understanding, We Make Up in Trust (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 39)

Jeremiah 17:7 (NLT)
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.

Wouldn’t be great to know the reason behind every event, every circumstance, every crisis, every test, and every mistake? To be able to consider the why of something is one of the greatest tasks ever set before the human mind. Researchers, thinkers, and philosophers are often consumed with the reason behind a certain thing or idea that produces situations that are both good and bad.

But there are some things of which we will never know why. We’ll never know why young children die of senseless violence. We will never understand why there must be wars and hatred in our world. We may never comprehend the magnitude to which evil exists all around us. We may never fully grasp why sickness comes upon us, pain is felt within us, suffering exists around us, and death is inevitable.

Some things are not for us to understand. That is the way God has set it up. When we do not understand, it is an open invitation for us to trust. We gradually learn to accept what is beyond our control to the complete possibility that there is a God who rules and reigns and understands all things.

When we fail to comprehend, when there are no words to speak, we search for a path of hope. That hope is found when we stop seeking after a reason and start trusting the One who knows all things. A firm belief in the truth and ability of God conquers our misunderstanding and gives us hope and confidence beyond any reason we think we need.

“When God closes a door He does not always open a window. Sometimes He wants you to sit in the quiet darkness while He transforms your fear into trust. How long that takes, is often up to you!”
