Be authentic to the inner impulses of your heart.
Scripture: “And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.“ Matthew19:29-30
Prayer: The verses are familiar and still the exaggeration catches my attention.
Response: Focus more on for the sake of my name rather what you might be called upon to give up. In fact, surrender is perhaps a better word upon which to reflect. Can you imagine a situation where a certainty that resides within you, inspired by grace, runs counter to the plans that family or friends or even society have for you? Now, link such a situation to living out your life in harmony and peace knowing the truth despite a conflict that might arise from those who would influence you.
Can you not see the call to freedom contained in these verses? And can you understand how acting humbly in accordance with God’s grace bestowed and of which you are conscious creates an atmosphere where those who have counseled an alternative path could well adjust their direction to follow your witness?
Further,do you see that such courage, conviction, and humility could well earn you – who were last in the world’s eyes – a lead position as you inherit eternal life? In a few words: be authentic to the inner impulses of your heart fueled and inspired by God’s special grace and love.
