Fix your gaze

Scripture: Fix your gaze on Yahweh and your face will grow bright; you will never hang your head in shame. A pauper calls out and Yahweh hears, saves him from all his troubles. The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and rescues them. Psalm 34:5-7

Prayer: May my face grow bright.

Response: Notice that in David's words, he is not suggesting that you bang a drum or tambourine to get the Lord's attention. Fix your gaze. What does that mean for you? First, you don't have to put a sign around your neck to alert passers-by as to what you are doing. Fix your gaze on Him and you will see those suffering behind masks of contentment and you will know what service you are called to perform—even if it is to listen to their story.

Fix your gaze on Him also suggests that you be quiet and allow the Lord to talk to your heart over the din caused by your ego that seeks to push to the front of the crowd to be heard. These words also suggest that you will discover a gentleness—a humility indeed—within you that might have been misplaced. Oh, and about the light, yes you will see reflected in those that you encounter a brightness reflected in the eyes of those whom you encounter that is caused by the emerging brightness on your face and the dawning awakening emerging on the faces of those whom you meet.

And in your new found humility, gentleness, service, and devotion, you will discover—perhaps for the first time— the angel of Yahweh encamped quite close to rescue you from the fears that were so haunting, the sorrows so incapacitating, and uncertainties that once paralyzed you.
