Scripture: Commit your destiny to Yahweh, be confident in him, and he will act, making your uprightness clear as daylight, and the justice of your cause as the noon. Psalm 37:5-6
Prayer: It is almost as if the Lord is talking to me through David on this day of my birth so many years ago at Presbyterian Hospital in New York, stay the course in His love.
Response: The message is so simple—commit, be confident and just, then look for the signs of approval that will be a clear as daylight. Yes, you are correct—commitment is crucial and it must be conscious commitment, not the rote commitment that seeks to disguise itself in loud proclamations in cavernous assemblies, but lacking in substance—memorized verses that encourage dullness of heart.
Allow the word commit to take on a new meaning of the heart, declaring a fully conscious oath that resounds in your heart and is reflected in your witness. And that witness is not reserved for select days, but is freed to engage your whole day from that first stirring— preparing breakfast, to engaging a stranger in conversation, or in refusing to be discouraged if—in the words of the Scottish poet Robert Burns—your best laid plans have gang aft agley, to the moment your head touches the pillow in weariness.
And in return, realize deeply that it is not simply a matter of trust, but that your uprightness will become as clear as daylight, and the justice of your cause as the noon. What more can you desire in the way of immediate feedback on this blossoming day that calls you to action?
