Guide our feet in the way of peace

Scripture: "In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace." Luke1:78-79

Prayer: How these verses apply as I sit in darkness awaiting the sunrise! Guide my steps today in your light.

Response: These verses are especially appropriate during family gatherings that are laced with darkness and misunderstanding. Because in these anointed words, you are told that the Lord's compassion will burst as the dawn upon those assembled and in that sunrise no one is able to remain as they once were. In fact, those now bathed in the Lord's light are spurred to journey sometimes far promoting the way of peace.

Sense the appropriateness of these anointed words—as if a salutation was selected to commemorate your name's day. In fact, it is your name day, a day of celebration, of promise, of joy, of clarity—no longer encumbered by past, dismal considerations. These words do more than hint of a journey continued under the Lord's protection and guidance.

So today, make ready. Leave behind the baggage of the past that weighed you down, and with eagerness—like a youthful athlete at a starting line—be ready to begin a new adventure, guided by the Lord's grace and love.
