Scripture: The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it all meant, saying, "Here is a teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him." And (Jesus') reputation at once spread everywhere, through all of the surrounding Galilean countryside. Mark 1:27-28
Prayer: Help me to be similarly astonished, hearing as if for the first time the Lord's miraculous healings carried on the gusts of the wind outside my window and let me be similarly astonished.
Response: But you must become more than an avid or even astonished listener or viewer. You must see and accept that healing as meant for you this day. You are not to respond to these verses with Oh, isn't that interesting! Rather you are pause and hold up your hand and proclaim Me too, please.
Scripture, and especially the events and miracles cited are not recorded simply for the historical setting to attest to what happened, but rather to seize your attention as to what is happening now in your life and in the lives of those around you—if you will be conscious. Scripture is not a book you take to bed—reading it until you fall asleep. Rather, it is the voice of Him that is bringing you fully into consciousness so that His love for you is not some fairy tale of your youth, but a solemn declaration and manifestation of His love for you that resounds in your heart.
Now key is seeing how His love is manifested in your life. No purpose is served declaring what has been wrong on your life's journey. Rather, this day declare with confidence what is right—where are the indications that suggest a new day—a pinpoint of the sunrise breaking through a cloudbank of despair, loneliness, illness or whatever other calamity one could dwell on. And if on the other hand, you already welcome each day the sunrise in all its glory, pray for those whose eyesight has been dimmed by travail and suffering.
