Scripture: Whoever lives blamelessly, who acts uprightly, who speaks the truth from the heart, who keeps the tongue under control, who does not wrong a comrade, who casts no discredit on a neighbor, who looks with scorn on the vile, but honors those who fear Yahweh, who stands by an oath at any cost, who asks no interest on loans, who takes no bribe to harm the innocent. No one who so acts can ever be shaken. Psalm 15:2-5
Prayer: Reading David's words, I silently hoped he would complete his guidance earlier; but it seemed that in reflecting on his own failings and those he observed, he wanted to have me explore each corner of my heart and bring to light a failing for which a healing is offered. Help me to become someone who is unshaken in the Lord's presence.
Response: These words would have significantly less impact if they were spoken by a pious preacher who would have one believe that he had leaped stainless from the womb; but no, these words are spoken by David who could identify with each failing before he begged forgiveness and was reconciled with Yahweh.
Wouldn't these words offer an awesome test for those who are held in trust and respect whether in business or public service? However, as you appreciate by now, it is easier to apply the standard to achieve an unshaken state to that person across the room, than to put aside judgment of another and embrace and apply the standard to oneself.
No need to pull up dark memories times when you failed to meet this standard. Simply apply the standard today, beginning with how you interact and serve those around you. Let there be no judgment of others—simply witness these principles in your life in all you do. Whether or not anyone detects a change, you will discover that you cannot be shaken—though not invincible. Additionally, you will find an interior peace because you no longer are engaged in a circuitous monologue of on the one hand, or on the other hand, like Topol in the Fiddler on the Roof, but now know almost intuitively where you are going.
