Scripture: Blessed those who find their strength in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. Psalm 84:5
Prayer: There are times, especially this morning when I was out walking so very long before dawn that I am reminded that my heart is set on pilgrimage. May I find my strength in the Lord.
Response: To lead your life as if a pilgrimage is worthy to consider. In grace you know the destination, you know that it is not wise to loiter, be distracted, or take a side alley in the town through which you are passing. Living your life in pilgrimage means don't burden yourself with what can be acquired along the way in possessions which you might find it difficult to carry or feel compelled to arrange their distribution after you "leave the room," so to speak.
Living in pilgrimage also means living in the absolute present. You must not miss, avoid, or ignore that which comes into view on your way like a precious holy site at which you will pause briefly pass. Bless this site, even if it captures a startling, yet unavoidable, loss or sorrow that causes you unimaginable, almost intolerable grief and pain. Restore your balance, if not your strength, and then pass. Also, remind your heart that you are on your pilgrimage—not someone else's even if that someone is walking alongside, or just up ahead of you.
Finally, pause for a moment, look back briefly if you must to see the terrain you have traveled; then repeat the words—Blessed are those who find their strength in the Lord. Aha! You are not alone on this pilgrimage—He accompanies. Give praise to the Lord.
